NO JOKE, JESTERS JAZZ BEATS JORDAN FILLY
Gail Cox (formerly Casselman) has had a super spring. From just 10 runners, the trainer has scored 4 races and when her starters are boxcar numbers on the tote – look out.
Yesterday, JESTERS JAZZ, a hombred for Craig Camerin, won the restricted Lady Angela Stakes over a seemingly invincible OISTINS, a tough gal from the dangerous barn of trainer Terry Jordan. The winner was 13 to 1.
JESTERS JAZZ, from the first crop of young sire MR. JESTER, rallied in time under Tyler Pizarro and won the $125,000 event named for the mare who was just inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
The chestnut filly won her debut at 51 to 1 last Sept. 26 and then was 4th in her 2010 opener on April 28.
There were several trainers who won their first races of the meet on Monday’s card. TINO ATTARD, BRANDON GREER, LIZ CHARALAMBOUS and CATHERINE DAY PHILLIPS all won yesterday to get on the board.

BOYNE ING UP THE TRACK – TEACHER BOYNE beats long standing track record.

It was 1968, the year of Richard Nixon. MUZLEDICK was a top Canadian racehorse, a stakes winner who won 21 races. He set a track reecord at Fort Erie at 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15 4/5, a record that stood until it was tied four years ago by mid-level runner FREZACON.
Well, the record has now been broken.
Over a sizzling fast Fort Erie surface, Muzle Dick’s 6 1/2 furlong record tumbled Sunday when TEACHER BOYNE (Perigee Moon) won a starter allowance ($8,000 claiming) in 1:15.43.
It was the Teacher Boyne’s third straight win at Fort Erie this year and jockey Melanie Pinto is now 6 for 6 when riding the veteran runner.
“He’s a treat to ride,” said Pinto. “I knew if I could get the lead and get him to relax we would get the job done and it worked out perfectly.”
Teacher Boyne is owned by Herbert Chambers and trained by Lyle Morden.
In Monday’s first race Mike Mehak guided Ghostly Concerto to a 2 ½ length victory, covering the 4 ½ furlong distance in 51.35 knocking 11/100th of a second off the mark set by Cacouna on opening day of the season.
Ghostly Concerto, who is owned by Leah Ann Ouellette and trained by Chris Jolin was making his first start of the season. It was the five-year-olds fifth win in 29 lifetime starts.
NORM FILES CATCHES ACROBATICS AT AJAX
Speedin Locomotive wanted to get going in the last race at Ajax on Sunday.
He broke through the gate but was held on to by jockey Jeff McLaren. The horse was later scratched.
NORM FILES shoots at Woodbine, Fort Erie, Ajax and harness venues. Check out his site over at flckr.com.
