RACING POST REPORT…FORM BOOST DELIGHTS BOTTI

By Ben Linfoot

Joshua Tree is pleasing Marco Botti ahead of his run in the Pattison Canadian International at Woodbine on October 16.

The four-year-old was beaten 13 lengths in third by subsequent Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Danedream in the Grosser Preis von Baden at Baden-Baden last time.

Considering the former Aidan O’Brien trained-horse was giving her 12lbs in unsuitable heavy ground Botti was delighted with the run and he’s also happy with his horse’s current well-being.

“Danedream hasn’t stopped improving and I thought the form from Germany was very strong,” Botti told sportinglife.com.

“Considering we gave her weight and he didn’t like the ground it was a fantastic run.

“He’s very well and working well – he’s shining in his coat. The plan is still to go to Canada and I’m looking forward to it.”

HOLY MO- LEY!
118 Beyer Figure for the Mo, he’s baaack

Count yours truly as one who was very skeptical of the talent of UNCLE MO. Yes, he was a stunning 2yo, but this year he just did not look like he had advanced and there just seemed to be something wrong with him.

Whatever his issues were physically, and really, are we actually going to know what they were for sure?, they are no at issue now as the colt relished the slop and te off-the-turf Kelso and he won with power and a stunning 118 Beyer Figure.
He was the fastest winner of the weekend by far.

LONGRUN GALA RAISES $46,000
simply the best – Hollywood Heaven gave us a great show at the LongRun Gala with singers such as Tina Turner – and she was the spittin’image!

Despite inclement weather, an enthusiastic crowd of close to 300  people gathered in Woodbine’s trackside tent Friday, September 30th, for a  festive evening of dinner, drinks and entertainment to benefit the horses who
run for our pleasure.

Gala chairperson, Stacey Krembil, whose hard work made the evening a smashing success, was proud to present LongRun’s Volterra Award to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stronach for their immense contribution to thoroughbred retirement, both here and in the U.S.  Lively entertainment provided by Hollywood Heaven in the form of Tina Turner, Elvis Presley, Shania Twain, Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga look-alikes kept the crowd on their feet dancing off the delicious plated dinner provided by Woodbine’s Food and Beverage department.

The rain didn’t douse the generosity of the attendees, who contributed  over $46,000 through the live and silent auctions towards LongRun’s goal of  providing a dignified retirement for Ontario’s thoroughbreds.  Live auction
bidding was heated for a large original oil of Northern Dancer, painted and  donated by noted artist, MyFanwy MacDonald, which was knocked down for  $10,000 to Gustav Schickedanz.  And Bill Graham (Graham Bros.
Construction) not only contributed his Air Canada box for a Raptors game,  which went for $3,000 to Greg and Linda Wolfond, but surprised the crowd with a last minute donation of the box for a Leafs game, which was purchased by Dr. Marc Desjardins of Milton Equine for $8,000.

Nostalgia prompted silent auction bidders to take home original shares in Northern Dancer for $2,200 (Lana Sniderman-Berg) and Nearctic for $2,000.  Both shares were donated by Gardiner Farms while E. P. Taylor’s riding boots, kindly given to LongRun by author and horsewoman, Muriel Lennox, were purchased by Warren Byrne for $500.  For a complete list of auction items, their donors and purchasers, please go to the LongRun website……www.longrunretirement.com.

JEBRICA wins BC Premiers, 80 Beyer Figure

Jebrica missed winning the BC Derby by a neck to Northern Causeway on Sept. 11 but made amends with a dramatic victory in the 65th running of the BC Premiers for 3-year-olds & up Sunday afternoon at Hastings Racecourse.

With the world’s most successful jockey Russell Baze at the controls, Jebrica ended any concerns about going the added distance of a mile and three-eighths with a half-length victory over Winning Machine in a final time of 2:17.76. Assessment, the third Emerald Downs-based horse in the race, finished third for a clean sweep of the Premiers by the Seattle visitors.

“He was very relaxed the whole way,” Baze said of Jebrica (Liberty Gold), trained by Jim Penney. “The horse has a big long stride and the distance suited him perfectly.” Jebrica paid $7.60, $4.80 and $3.80.

On a day when Richard Hamel secured his second consecutive leading rider title with two wins for a season total of 88, the jockey wearing the widest smile was Isaias Cardenas. He shocked the large closing day crowd at Hastings with a winning ride on Orchid’s Silver (Orchid’s Devil) in the 36th running of the $100,000 Ballerina for fillies and mares.

Orchid’s Silver, trained by Lenore Dubois for owners Nick and Pauline Felicella, paid an eye-popping $55.90 after beating Baze and favourite Class Included by a neck in a final time of 1:50.30 over a mile and an eighth in the afternoon’s co-feature. The Felicellas claimed Orchid’s Silver for $12,500 last year and she now has total career earnings of $156,554.

Heavily-favoured Herbie D. (owned and bred by George Robbins, by Orchid’s Devil) dominated the $50,000 CTHS Sales Stakes for 3-year-old colts & geldings, paying a paltry $2.40.

Raj Mutti, Regional General Manager, BC Racing, was elated with the overall thoroughbred racing season at Hastings Racecourse. “From where we started back in April to where we finished today has been encouraging,” he said. “I’m proud of our owners, our horsemen, staff and everyone who worked so hard in making the season successful.

“We started to see the momentum build in July and it kept growing right up until this weekend. It’s very satisfying.
