Indian Apple Is races to win
It was prety easy to see that once she popped out of the gate in front by a length and under a snug hold that INDIAN APPLE IS was going to put up a good fight in last night’s RULING ANGEL overnight stake.
The sizy filly by Indian Charlie – Domasca Bella, Domasca Dan, was pressured off the turn by favoured Gemswick Park who had no choice but to make her move up the deep and dead rail path and Cosmic Queen who was on her outside. But the dark bay gal dug in for a brave score for owner and breeder Frank DiGiulio Jr.
The victory was the second in 12 days for the three-year-old filly, who won a first-level allowance event on October 9 by a half-length.
Technically, the three-year-old Bob Tiller trainee graduated the first allowance condition on August 15, but was declared a non-starter in the race when she was deemed to have burst through the gate a split-second ahead of her rivals.
“She got unlucky this summer,” said Tiller. “She broke so fast and her nose touched the gate. She wasn’t acting up. She lost that purse. It was a million-to-one shot for something like that to happen.”
Tiller said he was a bit concerned when Indian Apple Is broke sharply in the Ruling Angel, setting fractions of :23.24 and :46.39.
“(She) out-broke the gate again. I was worried about that. On this Polytrack, you don’t go to the lead and win very often. This was a gigantic performance and we’re very happy with her.”

FIVE PACK FOR SIX PACK
SIX PACK SAMMY became the *first 5-time winner of the Woodbine meeting when she won the 3rd race last (* BOGUE CHITTO, as a reader mentioned, is about to become a 5-time winner as he was 2nd in a stake but the winner, Hollywood Hit has tested positive) night with a big late rally for $19,000 claiming.
The Yonaguska, Ontario bred has won for $12,500, $16K, $37,500 and $20 during the year for a variety of different folks.
She’s currently owned by George Farr and trained by Scott Fairlie.
At 2 to 1 in the morning line, the winner went off at a smart 5 to 2 while Clearly in Charge was an overbet even-money.
The impeccably bred NAVAL STRIKE was a troubled boy this year as a 4yo with lost riders and a pulling up incident.
The $135,000 yearling purchase was off since July, dropping from maiden allowance to maiden $25K and he won for fun at a surprising 9 to 2 , 5 to 2 in the early odds.
“I know he’s got himself in a lot of trouble this year – he’s been a bit of a disappointment but he got the job done today,”said Norm Casse Jr.
Atlantic Key zipped to the lead 3 wide in a duel and then cleared and widened to win the 5th race for the suddenly hot Knob Hill/Kevin Attard group.
It was the 4th career race for the Stormy Atlantic-Silca Key Service fellow (bred by Hill ‘n’ Dale) who was 1st time Lasix and in for $20K, abot what he was bought for as a yearling.
He had a 59 2/5 bullet 5 furlong prep since his last race.
“He just worked unbelievable, Justin and him just seemed to bond,” said Attard on The Score.
They are all running well now, it’s a tough game, w try hard and sometimes things don’t go your way.
Every day the racing here gets tougher, you candrop a horse in and it doesn’t man anything anymore.”
WINN CREEK was one of the more unusual winners of the year when he took race 6 for maidens for $20K. The Ontario bred by Storm Creek battled on the pace all the way, was joind by the reluctant Awholenewballgame, passed but then got the win when the latter relinquished the lead as he often does.
Oh yes, Winn Creek, who was eased in his only race (for $40,000 claiming) was 90 to 1.
The gelding had blinkers off to go with his drop in class and a rider change to apprentice Terry Husbands, who was getting his first WOODBINE win.
The gelding is a son of the winning type mare Dynamic Girl.

Darlene and Rene Hunderup’s HESTE SPORT won the first race of the night with PEACE BAY, who was given a clever ride by Emile Ramsammy to lead all the way in the 9 furlong maiden event. Peace Bay is yet more good news for the Hunderups. They recently greeted a grandson into the world (from their son Jason and his wife). The Hunderups operate Norse Ridge Farm.
FATAL BULLET WILL WORK SATURDAY
It’s 90 degrees in the shade at Santa Anita but Horse of the Year FATAL BULLET is apparently thriving at the scene of his greatest moment – the all weather at Santa Anita on which he was 2nd in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
The son of Red Bullet,owned by Bear Stables and trained by Reade Baker, is doing well and slated to have a workout on Saturday, two weeks before the bigrace.
His main competition in the Sprint will be that grey blur know as Zensational who worked a bananas 5 furlongs in 57.80 yesterday:

Zayat Stables’ Zensational (Unbridled’s Song), the likely favorite for the GI Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint, went five-eighths of a mile in a blistering :57.80, the fastest of 18 works at the distance. The second-best work of the day was nearly three seconds slower. Zensational worked nice,” said Baffert, who sent out Midnight Lute (Real Quiet) to wins in the last two runnings of the Sprint and also took the 1992 renewal with Thirty Slews.
“That work the other day [six furlongs in 1:10.60 last Thursday] really caught him back up to speed. He hasn’t lost his form.”
Unbeaten in five starts around one turn this season, Zensational took the GI Pat O=Brien S. at Del Mar in his most recent
appearance Sept. 6.

AJAX WRAPS IT UP
Roger Girard’s KOLD TONGUE (First N Kool) won the $114,000 Jackpot Futurity,the first running, onclosing day at Ajax Downs on Sunday. Trained by Clinton Crawdord and ridden by Jesse Dairgepont, the chestnut 2yo ran the 350 yards in17.870 and was 4 to 1.
Interestingly, the big favourite in the race was also a Girard/Crawford runner – Separate Cell – who was even money but lost the rider at the start.
