Inaugurated in 1952, the Valedictory is a longtime fan favourite event, 1 3/4 miles for the long winded types. It was first run at Dufferin Park and when it was at Greenwood, it was several times around that oval, sometimes leading to confusion among riders.

FRIDAY – $3.2 MILLION BET and HUSBANDS UP BY 7

D FORTY FOUR, a first time starting 2yo filly by Rebellion sold by Hill ‘n’ dale Sales Agency for Barry and Helen Irving, won the first race Friday battling on the pace all the way and then edging clear. A $24000 purchase, D Forty Four was ridden by patrick Husbands for Frank DiGiulio Jr and Robert Tiller. The filly was a surprising 4 to 1 and paid $10.80.

Race 2- another 2yo race this one for winners, was won by front runner JACKS ESCARPMENT, who just won his debut 12 days ago. This is a white-faced colt by Old Forester out of Escarpment, bred by Bill Graham and owned by John Caulfield. Nick Gonzalez trains and Eurico da Silva rode. The 3 to 5 favourite Adrosa Sky was off the board.

Race 3 – Super Six Stable celebrated a win by its 2yo filly DANCING ON FIRE, making her 2nd career start in this 5 furlong race, an open event. She led all the way under Patrick Husbands and won in 57 3/5. Mike DePaulo trains the Philanthropist dark bay who is out of Fiery pegasus by Fusaichi Pegasus. Denny Andrews bed the filly.

race 4- This 5 furlong maiden 2yo filly dash was for Ontario sired gals and the time was 58 3/5, set by debut winner TOOMANYCONQUERORS for the Buttigieg stable. This gal broke from the rail and led all the way for Justin Stein and she is by Sky Conqueror our of Mount Royer by Silver Deputy, She is a half sister to Too Many Egberts, a stakes winner this year as a 3yo. Later, the Buttigieg team won again with LUNAR LIGHT, in the finale for $8,000 claiming.

Race 5 – EXTRA QUIET, a cleverly named filly by Silent Name (Jpn) out of Silent Wind by Cryptoclearance, won her maiden for $16,000 claiming under Gary Boulanger. The 3yo had a stalking trip and then poured it on to win big for Janet Ward and Terry and Brandon Greer.

Race 6- COLINS NIGHTINGALE ended the year with 3 straight wins including this one by a nose for Mike Doyle off the claim. the winner is a Stormin fever mare bred by Ten Easy Pieces. Emma-Jayne Wilson got the filly up from far back to  beat Blue Waters, who had a clear lead until the last jump.

race 7 – BET ON JACK won for Joshua and Tino Attard under Eurico da Silvera. This With Distinction gelding is 2 for 9 this year and he won this $12,500 claimer at 3 to 1.

race 8  – JOHNNY BEAR, bought by Jjohn Brnjas and Bear Stables 2 years ago for a sale topping $270,000, won this 1 1/8 mile maiden allowance in his 6th carer start. Patrick Husbands rode and Ashlee Brnjas trains the English Channel gelding.
