CANADIAN-BRED JOYFUL VICTORY in Juvenile Fillies on Friday
Bill Graham, owner of Windhaven in Caledon, Ontario, will be cheering on JOYFUL VICTORY, a pretty grey Tapit filly (are all Tapit’s grey?) in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Friday. The 2yo has only raced twice and stalled late when a wide 3rd in the Frizette behind A Z Warrior, but she has some upward progress it appears.
The filly is out of Graham’s mare WILD LUCKY BLACK, a winner by Wild Again, and dam of 3 other winners including Woodbine winner Happy to Be Home and Black Deed.
The filly was a $60,000 yearling at Keeneland January 2009 and then a $400,000 2yo in Feb. of this year.

TSN, TSN2 COVERAGE
Breeders’ Cup Canadian TV coverage set for TSN, TSN2 and HPItv
TORONTO, November 1 – Racing fans can catch all of the Breeders’ Cup TV coverage on TSN and TSN2, plus HPItv, this coming Friday and Saturday, November 5 and 6 when the world’s best Thoroughbreds converge on Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Breeders’ Cup World Championships, Thoroughbred racing*s year-end Championships, offers 14 championship races for purses worth $26 million.
TV coverage of the Breeders’ Cup card begins this Friday from 4pm and continues until 8pm on TSN. On Saturday, TSN2 will kick off the coverage at 1:30pm and continue until 5pm, when TSN returns for the rest of the card from 5pm to 7pm.
The Breeders’ Cup TV coverage will also be available on HPItv and at all of Woodbine*s simulcast outlets on Friday and Saturday.
FORMER TODD PLETCHER TRAINEE WINS MELBOURNE CUP
150TH running won by AMERICAIN – a son of Dynaformer – America, by Arazi, bred by Wertheimer et Frere and a good one in France before he came to the US and was 3rd, 6th, 7th and 9th in some tough races on the grass in New York and elswehere.
He has been almost unbeatable since returning to France and yesterday rallied in time to win the Melbourne Cup.

CUP FEATURE – Cup win a long-range plan

The plan for successful Melbourne businessmen Gerry Ryan and Kevin Bamford to run French-trained stayer Americain in the Melbourne Cup was hatched in February when they bought the horse.
Ryan, who owns the Jayco Caravans empire, had already had horses with trainer Alain De Royer-Dupre.
Americain was recommended to him by bloodstock agents David Medbury and Robert Rouston and they purchased the horse for $US225,000.
At that stage the Dynaformer entire had won three races in France for another French trainer, including a Group Two 3100m win at Longchamps in May last year and a Listed 2400m win in May 2008.

Jock injured when mount clipped heels

Veteran jockey Jim McAleney, a lifetime winner of 2,177 races, will miss the remainder of the Thoroughbred season after being involved in a spill in Sunday’s fourth race at Woodbine.
The British Columbia native, who has 139 career stakes wins, was thrown to the Polytrack after his mount Itsallaboutmenow clipped heels in late stretch of the 1 1/16-mile race. The horse appeared to clip with Buck Hunter, ridden by Lanscott Fray. That horse was disqualified.
“He suffered broken ribs, a broken clavicle and a punctured lung,” said Robert King, National Secretary/Manager, Jockeys’ Benefit Association of Canada. “Jimmy will be out for the season, but he wanted the racing community and fans to know that he’s extremely grateful for the support they have shown him. When I visited him in the hospital, it was the one thing he wanted me to convey to everyone. Knowing Jim, he will work hard to get back to the races and to something he truly loves.”
McAleney, who won his first race at Northlands Park on August 24, 1986, was sitting seventh in the Woodbine jockey standings with 69 wins.
