Super racing at Woodbine these days and how about that 2yo Canadian bred colt UNCAPTURED?

Sad news about ETERNAL RULE (a Thoroughblog reader commented yesterday that the Presque Isle Mile winner had suffered an injury while cooling out in the test barn. Don Myers’ flashy Ontario bred did indeed suffer  a career ending/life threatening injury. DRF’S BILL TALLON updates that the gelding is heading to New Bolton Centre for suspensory injury, let’s hope this guy is going to pull through!

4 for 4 and we want to see more. The Lion Heart – Captivating, by Arch colt won the Swynford Stakes over 3 rivals with an 89 Beyer Figure and continues to impress as he makes mincemeat out of the lcoal colts.
John Oxley paid $290,000 for the colt at Keeneland last year from breeder Bill Graham.

Mark Casse trains the exciting fellow and certainly the Coronation Futurity could be a major goal on this guy’s schedule.

EMMA-JAYNE WILSON is just 3 away from 1,000 career wins HAVING WON THE 8th race on SHARP SECRETARY for trainer Lorne Richards. The filly was game to hold off a very troubled Fantastic Cousin.

Jim and Susan HIll, who had bad luck with Fantastic Cousin a, did take a win as DISCREET GLEN held on to win his maiden in race 1 on Sunday. The 2yo by Discreet Cat – Northglen, St Jovite was making his 2nd career start and he is trained by Reade Baker. He raced 5 furlongs in 58. He was a $57,000 weanling purchase from Devonleigh Farm which sold the colt through Anderson Farms, agent at Keeneland Nnovember 2 years ago.
His winning Beyer was 68.

race 2 was won by 2yo debut runner ATTICUS APPLE, who took the overland route to win the $32K event with a 6 wide rally. The Mike Silvera trainee is owned by Calypso Stable and he is by The Daddy.

Another Silvera, Laurie Silvera, won the 5th race with the 2yo LIP SINGER, a son of Silent Name (Jpn) out of Hippicritical by  Hail the Ruckus. The 2yo zipped up the rail to beat favourites Top Marc in Class and Grand Nature.

Paradox farms Inc. bred the colt who won the maiden allowance by 3 lengths.

SEELEY’S BAY (Mobil – Dixie Rose. by Anjiz) was placed first in race 7, the final leg of the first PICK 4 and the first leg of the SECOND PICK 4. The gelding was a 24 to 1 longshot who was beaten by Rising Dough but that one was demoted for coming in and wiping out Mia’s Rocket. The ruling seemed to be met with some dispute as it appeared Sir Lowry’s Pass came out into Mia’s Rocket but it was a close call. The winner was bred by Tony and Mary Lamb and is owned by Parkway Stables and trained by Sam DiPasquale. The first Pick 4 paid $31,000.

 

 

SECOND CITY IN A LAUGHER
wins BC Derby for Peter Redekop

SECOND CITY stamped himself one of the top 3yos in Canada on Sunday when he came from well back to win the BC Derby with an 85 Beyer Figure. The son of Distorted Humpor – Sis City was making his second start for owner Peter Redekop, who bought the Darley-bred from Don Brown and Stephanie Beatie.
Sis City is a Grade 1 winner and this is her 2nd foal.

There was no second guessing Second City on Sunday at Hastings Racecourse.

Second City, and jockey Richard Harvey Hamel, captured the 67th running of the British Columbia Derby at Hastings, powering his way to the front of the field down the backstretch to win the 1 1/8 mile race in a time of 1:50.94.

“I was scared to death,” said Peter Redekop, owner of Second City. “The plan was to be the engine at the front, and then he came out and kind of stuck back and then we got anxious. But once he started turning on the backstretch, he started gaining ground and he ate them up. He’s a fantastic horse.”

Making just his fourth start of 2012, Second City only arrived in Vancouver 10 days ago by way of West Virginia. Redekop said he bought Second City about “three or four weeks ago.”

“We flew him out here and we just worked him … because we just ran out of time,” he said. “He doesn’t know any different.”

MARITIMER HAS FIRST WORKOUT SINCE DUBAI

Canadian champion MARTIMER worked 3 furlongs at Saratoga this morning in 37 4/5 for trainer Seth Benzel and owner Ramzan Kadryov. Ther son of Stormy Atlantic, who may come to Woodbine late in the season to race, has not competed since he was well beaten in the UAE Derby in the March. The colt was bred by Howard Walton.
