CANADIAN ENTRANTS in the big races today are gunning for Sovereign Awards and lots of prize money but the task will not be easy as the invaders to Woodbine are some solid graded stakes performers.

In Europe, the betting shops have taken a lot of action of certain horses for Woodbine’s big races today. Here are some notes gathered by THOROUGHBLOG early this morning…
E.P. TAYLOR STAKES

CURVY is 3-1 in most shops but her 2 weeks back off the Flower Bowl bomb is a question (she did not like the soft grass). YAAZY and DEVONSHIRE are getting a lot of support at 9-2 and 5-1 respectively.
STRUT THE COURSE is bet next, the Canadian bred who would really be doing something big should she win this race.

NEARCTIC – the most difficult of the 3 races to handicap and the betting shops are having trouble sorting out the popular ones.
THE GREAT WAR and CYCLOGENIS are marginal favourites over the Euro-gal TERROR and SWEET LUCA.
CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL

CANNOCK CHASE is 9-5, 2-1 in the shops currently with SECOND STEP and SHEIKHZAYEDROAD taking support.

JOCKEY RYAN MOORE TALKS ABOUT HIS RIDES TODAY

courtesy Betfair.com
I’m off to Canada on Sunday to ride Curvy in the E P Taylor Stakes and Cannock Chase in the Canadian International, the race that I won on Hillstar last year.
Actually, I have been lucky enough to ride the last two winners of the Canadian International, I won it in 2013 on Joshua Tree, who was winning the race for the third time for his third different trainer.
This is a race in which European horses do well, and Cannock Chase has a big chance. Things didn’t work out for him during the early part of the season, he had a few little niggles and he had to race on easy ground a couple of times, but he was good when we got him back on good ground at Newmarket last time. It was only a listed race, but he won it well, and the runner-up isn’t a bad horse. He got a mile and a half well that day on his first attempt at the trip, and fast ground at Woodbine should suit him well.
Our main danger could be…

RACING POST REPORT:
Cannock Chase favourite to extend fine Moore run

BY LEE MOTTERSHEAD 8:14AM 18 OCT 2015

Canada: For the last three years a British-trained horse has been triumphant in the Pattison Canadian International, with the last two of them ridden by Ryan Moore and the most recent trained by Sir Michael Stoute. So the omens for Cannock Chase look good.

Bookmakers clearly agree as Cannock Chase, impressive winner of a Newmarket Listed race 23 days ago, heads the market for a Woodbine Grade 1 in which his nearest market rivals, Second Step and Sheikhzayedroad, have also travelled from within a CB8 postcode zone.

LINDY IS LUCKY – AND GOOD!

By Nicolle Neulist, Saturday at 8:49 pm

LUCKY LINDY has been one of the most consistent three-year-olds in Canada this year. In five starts through the summer, he never missed the board, working his way up from breaking his maiden to hitting the board in the Breeders’ Stakes (the third jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown) to winning his first stakes race in his most recent start. LUCKY LINDY had shown his prowess on both polytrack and turf. He had also proven his ability at the distance: his last-out win in the Ontario Derby (GIII – CAN) came at a mile and an eighth over poly, and he also finished second in the listed Toronto Cup going a mile and an eighth on grass.

The one thing LUCKY LINDY had never done before was ship. All of his career starts before today’s Grade III Hawthorne Derby had come at Woodbine.

This year’s renewal, the first since 2013, drew a tightly matched field of twelve plus one also-eligible. As ONE GO ALL GO was a trainer’s scratch the morning of the race, also-eligible FLASHY JEWEL drew in. The tote board reflected both the strong field size, as well as its well-matched nature. In the early betting, WIRELESS FUTURE, LUCKY LINDY, and SAHAM all sat at 4/1, with NUCIFERA and GRANNY’S KITTEN within a point of that. Those five continued to take the lion’s share of the money, with LUCKY LINDY settling as the 5/2 favourite, WIRELESS FUTURE going off 7/2, and SAHAM 4/1.

The gates opened, and MISSION DRIVEN assumed the lead from inside. 121/1 longshot FLASHY JEWEL and local allowance runner CHIP LEADER came up to force the issue. By the time the field entered the clubhouse turn, the crowd saw FLASHY JEWEL and MISSION DRIVEN disputing the issue on the front end.

Approaching the far turn, the field began to contract. Rider Robby Albarado took LUCKY LINDY outside to avoid those tight quarters, sending him five wide turning for home. With a furlong and a half to go, LUCKY LINDY had MISSION DRIVEN squarely in his sights, closing ground with every stride. He struck the front past the furlong pole. and continued on strongly. NUN THE LESS sustained a run along the rail, and SAHAM made an outside rally from the clouds, but LUCKY LINDY had flown away. He crossed the wire 2 1/4 lengths in front of a three-horse photo for place.

LUCKY LINDY is a three-year-old colt by Harlan’s Holiday out of the Rahy mare Celebrate. He is trained by Mark Frostad, owned by Agustin Stable, and was bred by George Strawbridge, Jr. The race was the second graded stakes win of his career, and his third win in seven career starts. It was his second win in graded stakes company, and his first career win on the grass.

Rider Robby Albarado, who had been in the irons for LUCKY LINDY’s three most recent stats, had the call again for the Hawthorne Derby. He noted how his mount had improved over time. “The first time I rode him, he was green,” recalled Albarado, in reference to his second-place finish in the Toronto  Cup in July. “He lugged in, and got in a little trouble. Today, he’s getting in my hands. He’s getting very responsive.” Albarado trusted that LUCKY LINDY would be able to make a run despite going so far outside. “It was wild…bumping this and that. So, I took him, swung him out, because I’ve ridden him before, and I knew his turn of foot…It was conducive to his running style. I needed that pace up front.”

Albarado also found the effort well within LUCKY LINDY’s abilities. “He beat them easy. I don’t like to take anything from the rest of everybody, but I pulled him up, and he wasn’t stressed, blowing, or anything. I look forward to seeing him next year, or maybe this year.”

Whether LUCKY LINDY’s next start will be this year or next year remains to be determined according to Sarah Ritchie, assistant trainer for Mark Frostad.

LUCKY LINDY stopped the clock in 1:48.26 for the one and one eighth miles over firm turf, and paid his backers $7.20 to win
