This is what we learned. Betting on the Breeders’ Cup races takes great courage and a heck of a lot of money. ‘Cause as soon as AFLEET AGAIN won the Marathon, how many of us out there were not scrambling already?
WOODBINE had a great Breeders’ Cup – the Woodbine Mile and Nearctic Stakes produced 2 winners and a few of the local runners fared well.
COURT VISION and TURALLURE ran 1-2 in the MILE and they won the last 2 Woodbine Miles, very cool. Jockey Julien Leparoux went crazy celebrating about Turallure after the finish, too bad he didn’t win.
COURT VISION is headed to Ontario to stand at stud at Park Stud and TURALLURE is by Ontario sire WANDO.
On Friday, PERFECT SOUL, now an Ontario sire, had PERFECT SHIRL win the Filly & Mare Turf.
GOLDIKOVA ran hard in her 3rd place finish – it was ridiculous that she was not disqualified, however. She was moved out sharply in the stretch and she wiped out several horses. Atrocity by the stewards.
EXCAPER, the American owned and bred 2yo colt who ran so hard in the Juvenile Turf, should win champion 2yo in Canada with his run. Colt pursued a hot, hot pace and held well for trainer Black, the Kaster family and jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson.

Court Vision pulls biggest upset in Mile history; Goldikova third
When Goldikova muscled out for room in the stretch and strode to the lead in Saturday’s $1,818,000 Breeders’ Cup Mile, an unprecedented fourth straight title appeared to be within her grasp. But the dream was soon shattered. Court Vision, unplaced in the past two runnings of the Mile for former connections, made it third time lucky to cause the biggest upset in the race’s 28-year history. Ignored as the 64-1 longest shot on the board in his second time out for Dale Romans, the Spendthrift Farm color-bearer rallied from near the tail of the field to pass Goldikova, then just lasted by a nostril from the frantic late charge of Turallure.
Court Vision furnished record Mile payouts of $131.60, $48.60 and $21.40. He surpassed the old Mile mark set by 35-1 shot Last Tycoon, who paid $73.80 to win in 1986. Court Vision’s mutuels were the second biggest in the history of the entire Breeders’ Cup, behind only the 133-1 Arcangues in the 1993 Classic.
The objection sign flashed shortly after the race, fingering Goldikova. The transatlantic champion hadn’t been too punctilious when angling out down the lane, and a chain reaction of bumping and colliding ensued. The stewards reviewed the film, but decided to let the order of finish stand. Goldikova’s sparkling career thus ended with a third in the race that she had owned…

ST. NICHOLAS ABBEY – Montjeu, his sire, having a big year, jock is 18yo son of Aidan O’Brien, kid is 5 ‘ 11″ and 122 pounds already, eeks!
HANSEN – almost white 2yo is unbeaten, he led all the way but crossed finish line bleeding from the mouth
SECRET CIRCLE – 95 2yo Juv. Sprint winner has a full brother (Eddington – Ragtime Hope) racing at Woodbine for $20K claiming for trainer Marty Drexler.

WOODBINE SATURDAY
Uncoupled entry alert!! Trainer Mark Cassse sent out INDIAN POND, 3 to 1, and MASKED MAIDEN, 5 to 1 in the Maple Leaf Stakes and it was the latter who won the 1 1/4 mile race over big favourite La Gran Bailadora. The 5-horse field did not offer much drama but the white faced daughter of Sky Mesa was the record breaking filly for trainer Casse’s wins on a year earlier in the fall.
First winner alert! Pine Valley Training Centre (Pail Cain) had it’s first winner as owner when the giant HEMLOCK CHANNEL chugged along to his debut win for $50K claiming yesterday. The son of E Dubai – Royal Diamond, trained by David Bell, was bred by Paul and Mary Little in Ontario. T-blog fan Janice (no M) Zealand also has a lot to do with the big boy, who has overcome his share of troubles to make it to the races.
EIN-STEIN – JUSTIN STEIN won 4 races and is seriously looking like he’s a magician on these horses.
CRYPTOGRAPH sired his first winner when LAEDA won the 2yo maiden allowance, 1st race at 1 mile and 70 yards.
A CORONATION FOR A 2YO TODAY
It is one of the country’s most prestigious and longest running stakes races – the CORONATION FUTURITY. It has seen better days, however.
The 9 furlong event is somewhat of a voodoo race since the winner has not come back to win the Plate since 1976.
This year’s field is modest at very best – 2 Sam-Son colts look tough with DEAD ON being a slight choice from this corner.
