Celebrate! While ZENYATTA fans were wowed by her 15th straight win in as many starts, Ontario-bred DANCE TO MY TUNE (Stravinsky – Bandore, by Forty Niner) was a brave 2nd. originally bought and raced by DAVE COTEY, the mare won the La Lorgnette Stakes at 3 and was sold at auction in 2008.

HOLLINGER POSTS FIRST WORK OF 2010
Attfield works more than a dozen
Champion 2-year-old in Canada, HOLLINGER, the winterbook favourite for the Queen’s Plate, had his long awaited first workout at Payson Park yesterday, loping 2 furlongs in 27 3/5, breezing, on a very slow Payson surface.
Hall of Fame trainer ROGER ATTFIELD had a busy Monday work day with a litany of trainees going to the pole including champion PALLADIO, now 8, who went in 1:04 2/5 for 5 furlongs, Plate winner NOT BOURBON worked 3 furlongs in 38 2/5, SAND COVE, 1:05 3/5 ETC.
AT PALM MEADOWS – co-champion 2yo filly BIOFUEL (Stormin Fever) worked 3 furlongs in 36 flat much to the delight of trainer READE BAKER. It was the filly’s 2nd workout of the season.
ALSO, Grade 1 winning, Canadian-owned filly CARELESS JEWEL, March 12 in 1:01 2/5, is nominated to the APPLE BLOSSOM STAKES, the next appearance for champion ZENYATTA (Street Cry).
The Apple Blossom lost its sizzle when RACHEL ALEXANDRA pulled out as of yesterday following her 2010 debut which she lost.
But Careless Jewel is a speedy sort who may enjoy the Oaklawn surface.
CARELESS JEWEL’s workout rider last time was top Kentucky jockey JULIEN LEPAROUX – CANADIAN JOCKEY ROB LANDRY had been riding the filly.
JULIEN LEPAROUX worked CARELESS JEWEL last week.

LOUISIANA DERBY STILL POSSIBLE NEXT START FOR HOTEP
Ontario-bred HOTEP, 10th in the Risen Star Stakes in his most recent race for Sam-Son Farms, could still race in the March 27 LOUISIANA DERBY.
On Saturday, Sam-Son Farms’ Hotep breezed three-quarters in 1:15 flat in preparation for the $750,000 Derby. Hotep is a full brother to Eye of the Leopard – winner of the 2009 Grade I Queen’s Plate, who was subsequently named (Canada’s Horse of the Year) *editor’s note: champion 3yo last year.
“(Hotep) looked good in his work Saturday,” said trainer Mark Frostad Monday morning. “Now we’ll give him one more work next week and if he does good in that one, we’re going to go in the Louisiana Derby.”
NEW BABY! Here is a Feb. 23 filly by PLEASANT TAP out of graded stakes-class mare VAGANOVA, by Nureyev. Foaled at Woodlands Farm, photo by Woodlands. The mare goes to the court of Fusaichi Pegasus next.

REASON TO DANCE
Ontario bred filly game in 2nd place to ZENYATTA
CANADIAN-BREEDERS had lots of reasons to celebrate last weekend (see Sunday’s post):
SUE FOREMAN has a vested interest in the Kentucky Derby, the KINGHAVEN FARMS bloodlines continue on through SIDNEY’S CANDY on the Derby trail and Anne and Punch Kent’s HOPE STOCK FARM bred DANCE TO MY TUNE, who led all the way and was just edged by the mighty ZENYATTA in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita last weekend.
While ZENYATTA only needed to post a 100 Beyer Figure to win on the weekend, little itty-bitty DANCE TO MY TUNE ran a heroic race in her first outing on a surface other than grass (she has never won on turf in more than a dozen attempts).
ODYSESSEUS (head down in the middle), the Tampa Bay Derby winner, is a Malibu Moon colt who has some relatives living in Ontario (see yesterday’s post).
