Oh baby! This yearling colt is
set toship into WOODBINE this week – he is HIP NO 119 (second session TUESDAY AFTERNOON) for the select sale. He is a Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, as agent, offering, and is a colt by Tomahawk out of Royal Diamond – the mare is from the family of REGAL INTENTION, DIXIELAND DIAMOND etc. Thanks to J. Zealand (the ‘m’ girl) for the photo)
DAY 98 – WOODBINE GETS READY FOR YEARLING FEVER!!
Racing resumes tonight at Woodbine (no racing tomorrow) and it leads into a long weekend that includes the 6 yearling sales stakes day on Monday.
Hopes are high again for the yearling sales to start following along the groove set by racing here in Ontario. WOODBINE’s product continues to overpower most tracks around North American – gosh, even Fort Erie is improving now since it has been shown on TVG on Monday’s and Tuesdays!
Our horses are good: How great is it to read the following blurb (from trainer WESLEY WARD on his Canadian-bred/Ontario foaled filly JUDY THE BEAUTY (Ghostzapper – Holy Blitz)
“From the day I bought her she’s been the one,” said Ward, who paid only $20,000 for her (Keeneland Sept.). “You buy a horse and you just know. I break them all myself, and she was so smart, so good, so athletic I just thought this is going to be an unbelievable horse.”
Our horses bought in recent years at the sales are really good – PENDER HARBOUR, INGLORIOUS, HIPPOLYTUS, you name it..
70 youngsters will be auctioned off MONDAY NIGHT at 7 p.m.

WOODBINE MILE
While Andrew Balding trainee SET THE TREND (2nd in Celebration Mile Group 2 last weekend) may now by-pass the WOODBINE MILE, the trainer could still send SIDE GLANCE to the race. The 4yo gelding a Group 3 winner, is owned by Pearl Bloodstock.
Hopefully the Mile will be able to entice some Euro runners this year.

PAULICK REPORT REPORTS…
Northern Dancer’s home getting some care
The TORONTO STAR newspaper caused a stir last week with a number of racing articles and one was the state of NORTHERN DANCER’S home, WINDFIELDS FARM, which is closed down but still has several gravesites of top horses – including the great one.
Indeed, there has been some noise that a- the NORTHERN DANCER statue will be moved from the front of the slots entrance at Woodbine and put closer to the paddock and now perhaps NORTHERN DANCER and friends will be moved somewhere safe too.

Historic Vancouver track races to keep horse betting relevant
ROD MICKLEBURGH
It’s a sunny Wednesday afternoon at Vancouver’s storied Hastings Racecourse, and the sights and sounds of this jewel of a track backdropped by the North Shore mountains are little changed from decades ago.
The blare of trumpets. The sharp clang of the starting gate. The thunder of hooves by the rail and swift flash of bright silk on the backs of dirt-spattered jockeys as half a dozen thoroughbreds pound towards the finish line amid a crescendo of yells from the crowd.
