STALLION HEIRESS, ENSTONE and INFLEXIBILITY will vie for favorisitm in the $500,00 Woodbine Oaks on Sunday, the classic race for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies.
The famous race, won last year by Neshama, has three American invaders including the fleet Stallion Heiress, bred in Ontario by Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry. The Fitzhenry’s will also have their own horse, Guy Caballero, in the Plate Trial also on Sunday’s card.
David Anderson’s ANDERSON FARMS will have an exciting Oaks as it owns FINANCIAL RECOVERY and bred INFLEXIBILITY.
Sam-Son Farms has won 7 Oaks, more than any owner, and its filly MYTHICAL MISSION is a contender with the seemingly unbeatable Eurico Rosa da Silva riding.

The PLATE TRIAL is the last chance for the boys to get things in order for the July 2 Plate. Champion KING AND HIS COURT (Court Vision) won the Wando Stakes last time out and will try to keep his advantage over Tiz a Slam, an on-the-rise colt from Roger Attfield’s Stable.
Ivan Dalos’ AVIE’S MESA is also a major contender in the 1 1/8 mile race in which the runners will carry the Plate weight of 126 pounds.

CODE WARRIOR, an Ontario sired gal by Society’s Chairman, won Sunday’s Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes, the first graded stakes win for trainer Rachel Halden.
It was the 4yo’s first win since she began her career in 2015 at 3 for 3 at Golden Gate. She is owned by Wachtel Stable, Gary Barber and JC Stable. She was bre din Flordia by Pam Edel.
CANADIAN-BRED COLTIMUS PRIME TRANSFORMS INTO BIG PANAMA WINNER
Panama is hailing it’s new equine hero and it is none other than Canadian bred COLTIMUS PRIME, a 6-year-old son of Milwaukee Brew – Certainly Super by Distorted Humor who won that country’s biggest race on the weekend, the $140,000 Clasico Presidente de la Republica in front of a huge crowd at the Hopodromo Presidente Remon racecourse.
The 2014 Prince of Wales winner, Coltiums Prime was bred and raced by Jayon Horner and was co-owned by Mike Weingarten when he went to Florida this past winter to trainer Brian Lynch.
“Brian introduced me to Rene Douglas,” said Horner. “Rene, as you recall isa racing manager/owner, following his terrible injury while a jockey [in 2009]. Brian had won the 2010 Prince of Wales for Rene and a group called Good Friends Stable, with a horse called Golden Moka.”
Rene, who is Panamanian, struck an arrangement with Michael Weingarten and me (collectively Michael and I are 50/50 Cabernet Racing Stables).
Essentially, Coltimus Prime (Primo) would race in the stakes series in Panama, including the Clasico, with the goal of returning to Gulfstream for the South American version of their Breeders Cup Day – The Clasico Internacional del Caribe.”
The pace was hot in the Clasico President, run at about 1.3 miles. The early pace fractions were :23.26 and :46.36 and 1:10.86. California Music, by MacLean’s Music was the big favourite but he chased the hot pace and faded. Meanwhile, Coltiums Prime, seen in the black silkd starting from post 6, had a perfectly timed run under 17-year-old Angel Rodriguez.

SYD COOPER, ADENA SPRINGS TO BE HONOURED AT FRIDAY’S CTHS AWARDS
The 45th annual CTHS Ontario Awards dinner is set for Friday June 9 at the Lionhead Golf and Country Club in Brampton On and among those who will be celebrated is Syd Cooper, 96, owner of RMC Stables. Cooper, who is still very much active in the racing in Ontario, currently has the fancy filly LILLY’S GOLDIE in his stable and she is one of the favourites for the upcoming Trillium Stakes.
Cooper will be presented with the Mint Julep Cup, sponsored by The Blood-Horse, which is awarded to individuals in recognition of their dedication and lifetime contributions to the Thoroughbred Horse Industry.
Cooper, P. Eng., is a Civil Engineering graduate of U. of T. 1945. He worked for Pitts Engineering Co. as a student engineer in 1943 and 1944. On graduation
and following army service, he rejoined Pitts as a field engineer on a hydroelectric project in St. Catharines. Working his way up, he was appointed
C.E.O. of Pitts at age of 34. In 1963, Cooper purchased Pitts, repatriating a U.S. company to Canada. The company grew to become one of Canada’s leading
heavy construction companies, land and marine, which created a large portion of Canada’s infrastructure.
With his family’s foundation, Mr. Cooper’s philanthropy is multi-faceted and reaches beyond our national border. This includes volunteering, holding
directorships and officer positions, as well as having the Cooper family name on various buildings, Chairs, and scholarships.
He has been part of the horse racing world since 1972 and has never missed a racing season. A member of the C.T.H.S. since 1978, Syd is also a long-time member of the H.P.B.A., the Jockey Club of Canada, an associate member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, and contributes to LongRun Retirement Society. One of the most telling signs of Mr. Cooper’s loyalty to the Ontario racing industry can be seen in his dedication to homebreds.
His marriage to the late and lovely Florence in 1946, lead to 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Naming homebreds after this large
crew was easy.
In 1972, Mr. Cooper & his partner, C. J. Jackson, purchased a yearling at the C.T.H.S. sale by the name of Cambridge Miss for $27,000 and together they
embarked on a racing career. In 1977, the filly became Mr. Cooper’s initial foray into the breeding shed. After 2 years, he parted ways with Mr. Jackson and
continued with his children as partners resulting in nearly 120 foals to date.
Mr. Cooper is synonymous with his racing outfit, R.M.C. Stable. One of the first tastes of Stakes success came with the horse named after his grandson,
John the Magician, who won the 1997 Breeders’ Stakes. In keeping with his ‘giving back’ philosophy, Syd named a 1999 foal Espee Ess, after the School
of Practice Science at University of Toronto, and then donated a portion of its’ $235,401 earnings.
The R.M.C. Stable has continued to enjoy success with horses such as Brite Adam, who won the Plate Trial and went on to place 2nd in the 1998 Queen’s Plate
and then stood at stud. Other Stakes successes include: Ascot Yael, Mister Coop, Aunt Els, Lynclar, Indian Dan, Kettle Rapids, Decew Falls, and the gritty
Consolidator Joe, who finished in the top three in 25 of his 30 career starts and was named the Toronto Thoroughbred Racing Club’s “claimer of the year” in
2011.
Mr. Cooper’s own words are the most fitting when he says “Our family believes in the rule of the three T’s, the sharing of one’s Time, Talent and Treasure”. And
we thank you for sharing these with the Ontario racing industry.
