SAY UNCLE! CONGRATULATIONS TO LOU TUCCI AND MARTHA AND NICK GONZALEZ
UNCLE B, owned and trained by Woodbine’s own Lou Tucci and Martha Gonzalez and Nick Gonzalez set a track record at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company day of racing on Tuesday:
The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company celebrated its 28th annual Day of Champions with an eleven race card highlighted by a track record performance in the OBS Sprint Stakes and a sensational victory by Al Shaqab Racing, WinStar Farm LLC and China Horse Club’s Master Plan in the $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for colts and geldings. The 3-year-old son of Twirling Candy had one horse beaten going into the far turn, but found room under John Velazquez between horses in the stretch and sailed past the leaders in the final sixteenth and won going away by 2-1/2 lengths over Ashbrook Farm’s Convict Pike, running the mile and one sixteenth in 1:44 flat. Conrad Farms’ Sailing Home was half a length back in third. Master Plan, trained by Todd Pletcher, was purchased by his owners for $850,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2016 March Sale after working an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. He’s now 4-2-1-0 and has earned $97,490.
In the $50,000 OBS Sprint for colts and geldings, Lucio Tucci and Martha K. Gonzalez’ Uncle B dueled with Donald H. Mensh and Mel Paikoff’s Storming My Way through a torrid half mile in :44 2/5, opened up in the stretch and scored by three lengths over Debra Posgai’s My Friend in a track record 1:08 3/5 for six furlongs. The time bettered Lady Shipman’s 2015 mark by a fifth of a second. Storming My Way was another 1-1/2 lengths back in third. Rider Luis Saez picked up his second win of the day for trainer Nick Gonzalez. Uncle B is now 4-2-1-0 and has earned $78,188. The 3-year-old colt by Zensational was purchased for $25,000 by Hidden Brook, Agent from S G A Sales, Agent, at the 2016 June Sale after he breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show.
In the $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, Ballybritt Stable LLC’s Dynatail battled most of the way with Alexander Levengood and Greg Kadel’s On Her Honor, took control in the final furlong and beat her to the wire by a length and three quarters. Gary Barber and Quintessential Racing Florida LLC’s My Arch Enemy settled for third, half a length away. Saddled by Michael Dini and ridden by Orlando Bocachica, the winner ran the mile and a sixteenth in 1:46 1/5. A daughter of Hightail, Dynatail was consigned to the 2016 June Sale by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co., Agent, and purchased by Ballybritt for $5,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 4/5. The victory leaves her with a 6-3-1-1 record and $89,740 in earnings.
Hernandez Racing Club’s Yes I’ll Go went to the front in the early going of the eighth race, the $50,000 OBS Sprint Stakes for 3-year-old fillies. She reclaimed the lead on the inside in the stretch after yielding it briefly on the turn and went on to beat Newtown Anner Stud’s Lady Racer by 2-1/2 lengths, with Breeze Easy LLC’s Heart Astray another length back in third. The time for six furlongs was 1:10 4/5. The daughter of Yes It’s True, ridden by Luis Saez for trainer Armando de la Cerda, picked up her first stakes win, leaving her with a 3-2-0-0 record and earnings of $49,942. The two time OBS graduate was purchased for $40,000 by Salvador Hernandez out of the Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent) consignment at the 2015 Winter Mixed Sale before she was consigned by Blue River Bloodstock to the 2016 April Sale where she breezed an eighth in :10 2/5. Yes I’ll Go returned $6.20, $9.00, $4.40; Lady Racer paid $10.80, $6.60; Heart Astray paid $34.20 to show. The 5-4 Exacta was worth $68.60 and the 7-5 Daily Double returned $5.00.
