THOROUGHBLOG PICKS THE PRINCE OF WALES:

1 – ALL ON RED is still learning the racing game but his Queen’s Plate effort was strong despite some traffic delay. He has won on the dirt too. Blinkers on may have him a bit pumped up and the danger is too much pace in this race but he is sitting on a big one.

2  – AMIS GIZMO is one of the best 3-year-olds in Canada and lost a tough one in the Plate to Sir Dudley after looking like a winner. He trained like a bear on the Fort Erie dirt and may get his revenge.

3 – SIR DUDLEY DIGGES peaked in the Plate and loved the last big of distance to reel in ‘Gizmo’. He might have to hurry this time.

Can Sir Dudley Digges do right again?

Ken and Sarah Ramsay’s Queen’s Plate champion is aiming for the Triple Crown as he tops the 8 horse field this evening at Fort Erie racetrack. The second jewel of the Crown, worth $500,000, has a post time of 7:38 and it is on TSN.

Many of his Plate rivals are back and a few new faces are in the mix, including in the intriguing BATTERY, owned by the Harrell family of Citation OIl & Gas in Houston, Texas.

Todd Pletcher is keen and John Velazquez makes his first trip to Fort Erie:

“The real key for us is getting back on the dirt, hopefully,” Pletcher said. “He didn’t seem to like the synthetic. We ran him once as a 2-year-old on what was then the Polytrack, so we were hoping maybe the switch to Tapeta would help. Obviously he didn’t run well in the Plate Trial. At that point we regrouped for this.” –  TODD PLETCHER, TRAINER, BATTERY
