$11.06 MILLION BET ON WOODBINE SETS RECORD
At the post Plate parties on the Woodbine backstretch Sunday night, a Woodbine traditional for years, there was not a down face in the crowd. The horses were healthy and
packed away from the night and, no matter how your horse did on Plate day, there were smiles and hugs and celebrations.
These are the people of Ontario horse racing.
Grooms and owners, media and jockeys, nightwatchmen and trainers. Everyone was out on the backstretch enjoying great food and great generosity from those who put on the
parties.
One of the main topics of the day was the crowd, the betting, the feeling that the sport, the industry, was embraced by the public in a big way.
The totals of the day were incredible: $11.06 million wagered on the card, up from Woodbine’s best previous day from 2 years ago of $9.8 million. (Breeders’ Cup 1996 does not
factor into this).
The crowd, estimated in the 30,000- 35,000 range was energetic, loud and enthusiastic. There was so much to do as you moved around the track: bands, food, fashion and Lego.
The racing was spectacular with great finishes, course records and an exciting Plate stretch run.

Sold last fall at the Keeneland November sale for $42,000 to Arindel Farm. She produced a Point of Entry colt in March and videos of her and the foal can be seen on Arindel’s Facebook page.
