HBPA – CLARIFICATION OF  MAIDEN $40k CLAIMING CONDITION

The HBPA will be sending out a notice re the new M40 condition because there is a lot of confusion.

If you run for M40 and bred outside Ontario the purse is $31,000.

If you run for M40 and you are Ontario Bred the purse is $37,200

( $31,000 plus $6200 Ontario Bred bonus.)

*If you run for M40 and are Ontario Bred and Ontario Sired the purse is $43,400.

( $ 31,000 plus $6200 Ontario Bred, plus $6200 Ontario Sired bonus)

If you run for the protected allowance condition ( you can’t be claimed and you must be Ontario Sired ) the purse is $ 31,000

If you run for the protected allowance condition ( you can’t be claimed and you must be Ontario Sired ) but you are Ontario Bred the purse is $37,200.

( $31,000 plus $6200 Ontario Bred bonus )

We hope this clarifies the confusion and we have asked WEG to re-word the condition book.

 

FRIDAY AT WOODBINE
Friday was one of the extreme-heat and humidity days with temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Race 1 was a 2-year-old maiden allowance for Ontario sired fillies at 7 furlongs and EVIL WOMAN, owned by Tucci Stables and trained by Nick Gonzalez, battled on the pace and then drew off to win by 1 3/4 lengths under Jesse Campbell. The 7 to 2 third choice kept favoured FOREST LASS at bay (there is a full sister to Lorest Lass is the yearling sale at Woodbine on Sept. 1) for her maiden win in her 3rd career race.
She is a Court Vision out of Magna Cum Laude by Pleasant Tap and she was bred by Kingview Farm.
This was a $60,000 yearling purchase last year.

race 2 – on the grass at 6 furlongs for $32,000 claiming, fillies and mare and favoured ESTRADA’S GIRL stormed to her 14th career win under Terry Husbands for own Don MacRae and Winston Penny. This is a 7-year-old mare by Golden Missile who loves to sprint on the grass. She came in from Laurel when claimed in January and she was claimed from this race by Lou Tucci and trainer Jamie Attard.

Race 3- A maiden 3-year-old fillies and mares race, open to horses bred anywhere/sired anywhere went to CAMARIA who was 2nd in her debut on the grass and won this Tapeta race for Stronach Stables and trained Nick Gonzalez. Ridden by Eurico da Silva, the Ghostzapper homebred is out of Camargue by Mineshaft.
The filly was 1st time with Lasx and she defeated $700,000 debut runner Conquest Ventura.
The time of 1:23.58 was good for a 79 Beyer Speed Figure according to Daily racing Form.

Race 4- Trainer and owner Marko Mesic and jockey Sheena Ryan combined to help GRACIOUS GEISHA finally win her maiden in her 19th career race. The First Samurai filly, a Kentucky bred, won for $9,500 claiming in her second straight sprint race on the Tapeta.

Race 5- When owner/trainer Conor Murphy ships one to Woodbine, we better take notice. The owner and trainer of double winner Dimension sent up HEUSTON (IRE) for a $50,000 claiming race on the grass on Friday and watched him win at 19 to 1, his first victory since late 2014. Steve Bahen brought the 7-year-old by Acclamation (GB) out of a With Approval mare from more than 6 lengths back to win in a furious charge wth stakes winner Hampstead Heath.
The itme of 1:35.55 for one mile on the grass was good for an 85 Beyer Figure.

Race 6- Mr. Rolph Davis’ YORK RANGER pressed the pace in this 7 furlong maiden claiming race for $16,00 and then went on to win with blinkers back on and Eurico da Silva up.
The son of NOrth Light (Ire) – Our Mariah by Mt. Livermore was the 2nd winner bred by Richard Day’s Kingview Farm on Friday. The 3yo was bought for about $30,000 and he posted a career best 70 Beyer Figure for this nice win for trainer Bob Tiller.

Race 7 NOTALONEINHISHEAD won for $10,000 claiming for 3-year-olds and up. Owned and bred by Paradox Farm and trained by John LeBlanc, the Old Forester gelding was making his 5th start of the year. H eis now 2 for 12 in his career. Simon Husbands rode.

Race 8 – CLARKSTONCANDY is now 2 for 3 in her career as she won an allowance race for owner and breed Bradscot Farm and trainer Shana Lopze. Lopez (previously know as Lopez-Dixon) won her first race as a trainer this year and is now 3 for 17. The winner is a 4yo by Tethra and Jermaine Bridgmohan rode in a win in 1:46.69 for 1 1/16 miles – a 72 Beyer Figure.

Race 9 – Coming off a big show of speed on the Tapeta (big lead in 21 2/5, 44 3/5, CHILL had a distinct pace advantage on the maidens in a $40,000 optional claiming race, race 9 on the grass. The Indiana bred by Artie Schiller slowed his pace fractions down by about 2 seconds and led all the way at a surprising 30 to 1 for the Reade Baker stable. Ten Lee Mah Stable is the owner and Jim McAleney rode.

 

Hastings Park introduce incentives!2017 Horsemen Incentive Programs

Wintering Money for Lower Level Claiming Horses at Hastings 2017 Program

· The industry Associations, in recognition of the economic realities of wintering and training lower level claiming horses, have again implemented a plan to provide an incentive of $2,000 for horses that make their last start of 2016 at Hastings for a claiming price of $6,250 or less and make their first start in 2017 at Hastings at any level. To be eligible for the $2,000 a horse must not have started at any other track after the close of the 2016 Hastings season prior to making its first start of 2017 at Hastings.

· The $2,000 bonus will be paid to the owner’s account immediately following an eligible horse’s first start at Hastings in 2017.The owner must undertake to leave the horse’s papers in the Hastings Race Office until August1/2017.Repayment of the $2,000 will release the papers prior to August 1/2017.

· Horses that start elsewhere after making their final 2016 start at Hastings are not eligible for this incentive program. The Associations’ intention is to reward those horses committed to racing at Hastings; therefore, the incentive is available only for horses that made their last appearance at Hastings in 2016 for $6,250 or less and make their first start for 2017 at Hastings at any level.

Yearling, Two and Three-Year-Old Purchase Program
Program Rules for 2016 – 2017

· To be eligible you must be a BC Resident.

· Buyers who purchase a Yearling, or a Two-Year-Old, or a Three -Year-Old at auction from September 14, 2016 to April 1, 2017 outside of British Columbia will receive 50% of the purchase price up to a maximum of $7,500 Canadian dollars.

· Fillies will receive an additional $1,000 Canadian.

· For the purposes of this program, Canadian and US dollars are considered at par, e.g., $15,000 US will generate a payment of $7,500 Canadian.

· The monies will be payable upon the purchaser making application to the Horsemen’s Bookkeeper (Cristan Gossen) or the Racing Secretary (Nichelle Milner). A letter of commitment to race the horse in British Columbia, along with the horse’s papers, must accompany the application.

· Purchasers receiving funds under this program agree that their horse’s papers will be retained by the Race Office at Hastings Racecourse until the end of the 2017 racing season. Repayment of funds received under this program will release the papers.

· This program only applies to purchases made at public auctions outside of the province of British Columbia.

· Horses foaled in British Columbia are not eligible for this program.

Fresh Horse Program – 2017
A Program for Horses That Have Previously Started Elsewhere in 2016-17

· A guaranteed $2000 bonus for any horse’s first start in 2017 at Hastings Racecourse whose previous start was made outside of British Columbia. Horses that raced or were stabled previously at Hastings Racecourse are not eligible. BC breds are not eligible.

· An additional $1000 Bonus after the horse’s second start (Same conditions as above).

· An additional $1000 after the horse’s third start (Same conditions as above) for a maximum value of $4,000 under this program.

· Stakes races are excluded from this program.

· All horses must have started for $8,000 or more in their last three starts to qualify. If a horse has not started three times, then all of its lifetime starts must be for $8,000 or more.

· First-time starters and horses participating in the YEARLING and TWO and Three-Year-Old Purchase Programs do not qualify for the Fresh Horse Program.

· Application must be made to the Horsemen’s Bookkeeper (Cristan Gossen) or the Racing Secretary (Nichelle Milner) upon arrival at Hastings Racecourse to establish eligibility.

· Purchasers agree that the registration papers will remain in the Hastings Racecourse racing office for the entire 2017 season unless shipping elsewhere to participate in a stakes race. Repayment of funds received from this program will release the papers.

· Horses who are otherwise eligible for this program but do not meet the claiming price requirement are eligible to receive $1,000 upon their first start at Hastings in 2017.

Weanling Purchase Program
Program Rules for 2016 – 2017

· To be eligible you must be a BC Resident.

· Buyers who purchase a Weanling at auction from September 14, 2016 December 31, 2016 outside of British Columbia will receive 50% of the purchase price up to a maximum of $7,500 Canadian dollars.

· Fillies will receive an additional $1,000 Canadian.

· For the purposes of this program, Canadian and US dollars are considered at par, e.g., $15,000 US will generate a payment of $7,500 Canadian.

· The monies will be payable upon the purchaser making application to the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (BC Division). A letter of commitment to sell the horse in a sale conducted by the CTHS (BC Div.), or race it in British Columbia must accompany the application.

· Purchasers receiving funds under this program agree that if they choose to race, their horse’s papers will be retained by the Race Office at Hastings Racecourse until the end of the 2018 racing season. Repayment of funds received under this program will release the papers.

· This program only applies to purchases made at public auctions outside of the province of British Columbia

· Horses foaled in British Columbia are not eligible for this program.
