TODAY’S NEWS – ZENYATTA will be back! Woodbine Woodbine Woodbine!!!! maybe? Casse wins first of 2010, NYUK NYUK NYUK still winning!
ZENYATTA WILL RACE IN 2010!
Now it’s up to WOODBINE to get her to come to Canada for a visit!
She might be named the Horse of the Year tomorrow night at the ECLIPSE AWARDS, she might not. Either way, the tough, undefeated mare ZENYATTA is going to continue racing in 2010 and what great news that is for horse racing fans.
Let’s face it, the media generated by Zenyatta and the equally brilliant RACHEL ALEXANDRA seemed to come AFTER their big races – who really paid attention (general public wise) when Zenyatta took on boys in the Breeders’ Cup Classic until AFTER she had won the race?
Now is the time to flaunt this gal, get people revved up about horse racing, bring in new folks.
Let’s do a SECRETARIAT and lure her to tracks all over.
WOODBINE should be all over the phones right now – how about the DOMINION DAY at 10 furlongs against the boys on Canada Day? That would be cool.
Okay, it’s not likely to happen but let’s hope the gang at WEG is up and at ’em tomorrow morning following this up.
Woodbine does not offer many Polytrack races for older fillies and mares that would be worth coming up for and there are a few older horse races like the Eclipse etc. (turf racing is the emphasis up here) but no matter, let’s lure the MOSS family into bringing the top mare here!!
STORY EXCERPT FROM THE SARATOGIAN
By NICOLE RUSSO
The Saratogian
Thoroughbred owner Jerry Moss, the co-founder of A&M Records, understands show business. And when the brilliant mare Zenyatta, whom he campaigns with his wife Ann, stormed down the stretch to a historic triumph in the Breeders’ Cup Classic last November, capping an undefeated career, it seemed like a show-stopping number.
The owners decided their star ought to call it a career on a high note. But now, the Mosses have decided that the show must go on.
Following weeks of speculation, the Mosses officially confirmed Saturday that they plan to return Zenyatta to competition in 2010.

SOVEREIGN NOMINEES WILL BE ANNOUNCED TOMORROW
POINTS OF GRACE – FAVORITE TO WIN CHAMPION TURF MARE
Dave Landry photo
The finalists for the SOVEREIGN AWARDS – horses and horsepeople – will be announced tomorrow by the Jockey Club of Canada.
Perhaps the finalists will give us a hint on who may be named Horse of the Year.
In talking with voters, it appears that the turf male category is very close – CHAMPS ELYSEES and RAHY’S
ATTORNEY got plenty of action. One won the Grade I Canadian INternational but it was his only win of the year.
The other won a trio of stakes and two gtaded events and then he was a super 2nd in a Churchill stake.
Hmmmm.
Horse of the Year votes have gone to one of those 2, El Brujo and Milwaukee Appeal – could EL BRUJO be the
sneaky one and grab 3yo, sprinter and Horse of the Year?
Jan 29 we will find out, get your tickets for the awards night at the ULTRA CLUB in downtown Toronto.
