NO HOLDING COURT
91 Beyer for speedy Grand Slam filly
LEIGH COURT settled on the pace and then took off to win the LA LORGNETTE STAKES for owner/breeder Eugene Melnyk and trainer Josie Carroll yesterday at Woodbine. The fast gal did not mind the torrential rain that was happening during her race (and was off and on all day) as she crushed last year’s champion 2yo Spring in the Air with a big win. She is by Grand Slam out of Padmore by French Deputy.
Gary Boulanger rode this gal who was winning her 2nd straight stakes race and she is not 5 for 8 in her career with earnings of over $310,000.

How cool was it to see LAPSANG win the DEPUTY JANE WEST STAKES? It may have been a tiny field for this overnight stake named for a top 2 and 3yo filly in Canada from years ago, but LAPSANG ran a 70 Beyer in her win for Suzue Drake and Tim drake, Janice and Joe Pollard and Philip Yu. It was the first stakes win for the Drakes who run Silver Duck Racing.
This is a grey filly by Smoke Glacken out of Gdansk by Appealing Skier, bred by Sedgefield Farm.
MORE FROM SATURDAY – lots of longshots and lots of beunners won – how about a firster winning from the RAIL POST in race 1?
FAST ‘N’ FIRM, bred by the same man that gave up My Conqestadory, Paul Tackett, won her debut for $32,000 claiming under Emma-Jayne Wilson for the Martha and Nick Gonzalez team. The filly is by SW ELITE SQUADRON. She was 19 to 1.
And then it was FOURTEES, also 19 to 1, who won from post 2 in a MSW for Ontario sired gals. This one, bred by the late Herbert Chambers, is by Chambers own stallion Gamblers Slew, from the talented mare Vices n Tabacos and she is owned by Maurice Nicholson and H. Lothian. Natha Squires trains.
How about a $3,500 yearling purchase winning her debut in a $50,000 MSW? MAYTHEBOURTHBWITHU (Silent Name – Cat’s Calling by Caller I.D.) won for Frank DiGiulio Jr and trainer Robert Tiller in race 5 with a 62 Beyer.
Clever name by the way – she was born on MAY 4!!
Congrats to THOROUGHBLOG friend BILL STEWART at Black Canyon Thoroughbreds as his homebred A SONG FOR ARBONNE won an off the turf maiden allowance in her 4th career race. The Arch filly is out of Sweet Windsong by Aptitude and from the the family of that good filly BRATTOTHECORE.
