YOUMZAIN EXPECTED AT WOODBINE
Youmzain, a super racehorse but one of the most unlucky, is expected to travel to Woodbine for the Canadian International on Saturday Oct. 17 after his third consecutive 2ND PLACE finish in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
The son of Sinndar, now a 6-year-old, has been 2nd best to the likes of Zarkava and Dylan Thomas before his run on Sunday behind Sea the Stars.
The Irish-bred has won6 of 26 races and over $4.3 million – his big win was in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint Cloud last June over runners such as Doctor Dino.
Youmzain had raced just once since June before the Arc – 3rd in the Pres von Baden in Germany – and this will be the first time he has put 2 races this close together, should he come.
Kieran Fallon, who recently returned to riding after a long suspension, rides Youmzain.
FROM PRESS ASSOCIATION:
Youmzain goes down fighting again
(UKPA) – 19 hours ago
Mick Channon intends on trying to make it fourth time lucky with Youmzain after the six-year-old had to settle for the runner-up spot once again in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Sporting headgear for the first time, the son of Sinndar came from towards the rear under Kieren Fallon to beat all bar the brilliant Sea The Stars.
Channon said: “I’m very proud of my horse and everyone at West Ilsley has done a tremendous job, he has had a few setbacks this year. This is his race and we have just got to congratulate Sea The Stars – he’s a champion. He will be here next year, but first we will look at the Canadian International and then the Japan Cup.”
The handler continued: “He has bumped into two superstars in Sea The Stars and Zarkava (last year’s winner). And Dylan Thomas (2007) wasn’t bad, was he? The winner quickened up from furlong out and put the race to bed, we’ve chased him and he has run another great race.”

SUPER ‘STARS’

So, did you see the Arc yesterday?
Eager early, SEA THE STARS tossed his head about numerous times, very eager and rank under Mick Kinane, the Cape Cross colt took a while to settle into stride.
Once he did, he was shuffled well back in the field while rivals made it a bit tight on him.
But his power and acceleration was something to see as he surged between his rivals and exploded to the lead.
from the BBC SPORT:
Sea The Stars has been hailed as one of the greatest racehorses after his stunning Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe win.
The three-year-old’s six Group One wins this season include the unique treble of the 2,000 Guineas, the Derby and Sunday’s breathtaking French success.
Five-time champion jockey Willie Carson said: “He’s got so much ability. We’ve seen one of the best horses ever.”
Ian Balding, who trained the brilliant Mill Reef in the 1970s, said: “I think Sea The Stars is the best of all.”
Reports suggested the Irish-trained horse could be worth as much as £100m were he to be retired to stud now.
Jockey Frankie Dettori, a winner of every British Classic and beaten into third place on Cavalryman at Longchamp said: “He’s in a class of his own.”
Even Sea The Stars’ softly-spoken trainer John Oxx said the colt “deserved to be” ranked alongside other past greats of Flat racing.
Oxx told BBC Radio 5 live: “Nobody knows who the best is, you can never answer that question. But his is certainly an unequalled record, primarily because he won the 2,000 Guineas which so many of the others didn’t.”
Superbly trained by Oxx and ridden with supreme skill by 50-year-old Mick Kinane, Sea the Stars has beaten all his rivals with some devastating triumphs this summer.
On Sunday he did it again despite being boxed in and several lengths off the pace for most of the one-and-a-half mile race.

E.P. TAYLOR STAKES NEXT STOP FOR CHINESE WHITE
from Press Association
Chinese White will head for the E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine after being forced to miss the Prix de l’Opera.
Dermot Weld’s filly has been in great nick this season, winning her last three starts in imperious fashion but a small setback before the race denied her a crack at Sunday’s Group One at Longchamp.
James Kelly, racing manager to the owner, Lady O’Reilly, said: “It wasn’t the ground she may have got cast in her box, we are just not 100% sure yet. She’ll go for the E.P. Taylor now on Saturday week.”
He added: “It was hugely disappointing to miss it but when you are involved with horses you have to learn to deal with it. She’s not Breeders’ Cup nominated so that was never really a possibility as it costs so much to supplement.”

WACKY WOODBINE WEEKEND
New stakes winner for legendary WINDFIELDS FARM
Longshot players would have had fun at Woodbine this weekend as a lot of the results were simply too baffling to decipher.
Yesterday, the fresh and lightly raced POOL PLAY came from nowhere to beat multiple stakes winners in the Grade 3 Durham Cup Handicap for Bill Farish and trainer Mark Casse.
ICE BEAR, curiously the favourite in the race over Palladio and Gran Estreno, was 2nd while the aforementioned pair were not threats.
POOL PLAY was a $60,000 weanling sale by breeder WINDFIELDS FARM and then a $625,000 yearling purchase by Windstar.
The colt was only a modest runner when he was sold for $180,000 last fall at the Keeneland November sale and Farish bought him and gave him back to Casse.
The Silver Deputy – Zuri Ridge colt ran a 98 Beyer Figure in his first stakes win.
More from yesterday:
Many handicappers were left scratching their heads when ABRUPTLY won the 5th race.
A re-cap of this 2yo:
In his debut on Aug, 23m this gelding was 7th beaten 6 lengths for maiden allowance at 7 to 1 with a downright awful trip. He was in trouble most of the race.
Tyler Pizaaro was back to ride the Bold Exectuive fellow on Sept. 9 and the gelding was 2 to 1 and favoured, but was 10th beaten 10- lengths.
Yesterday, at 8 to 1 with blinkers on and only a 44 and 42 Beyer Figure to offer, the gelding won under new rider Martin Ramirez, who was 0 for 5 for the Don MacRae barn at Woodbine in the last 2 years.
Favourites just got hammered all the way – losing left and right while the very fast Polytrack played mostly fair – unless you went to the rail and sunk.
Horses that dove to the rail (and there weren’t many, if you watch the replays the riders were staying many paths off the fence during the races) included MIMI COOPER, CREEKSIDE CAFE, BARRACKS ROAD, PALLADIO and CHILD O MINE.
EMMA-JAYNE WILSON won the Daily Double with 2 super rides.
And yesterday there was a super seminar featuring DAN ILLMAN of Daily Racing form, who came equipped with his TRIP HANDICAPPING DVD, gave out a bunch and showed us clips of different trips horses can have in races plus a study of horses and lead changes.
Thanks to Woodbine and the DRF for sending DAN to the track for the fans.
CANADIAN BRED 2YO FILLY 3RD IN GRADE 1
BICKERSONS, a 2yo Silver Deputy filly bred in Ontario, was third in the Grade 1 Oak Leaf at Santa Anita yesterday and surely is a Breeders’ Cup possibility.
The filly was an $80,000 yearling purchase by George and Lori Hall from breeder Robert Harvey.
The filly, out of Dancehall Floozy, is a half-sisster to D’Oro Diablo and Gantu, both runners at Woodbine.
Her Beyer Figure in the Oak Leaf was 83.
