$22,000 CARRYOVER AT WOODBINE TONIGHT!
Gypsy Ring is key to the whole ball of wax…
The PIck 6 does not attract much attention at Woodbine but when it slowly gets higher and higher, well then it’s time to start thinking about.
$22K is already in the kitty heading into what will be a very steamy night at the races.
Here are some thoughts on the PICK 6 tonight:
RACE 3- grass, maidens, 6 furlongs, tough way to start things off but BARRACKS ROAD is from the hot combo of Eugene Melnyk, Mark Casse and Corey Fraser which had the 11 to 1 turf winner Woodbourne the other day (picked to win in the Toronto Star as the best bet fo the day!).
This gal has not raced this year but she almost won her debut on turf.
Take a look at MI BUENA VIDA, she had a tough trip into the strtech of her debut at Tampa and she has worked like a monster locally.
RACE 4 – CERTAIN PRIDE just won at this level at 5 1/2 furlongs and should love 6 furlongs. The Asmussen runners win right back 24% of the time. CRANBERRY CREAM is a tough speed runner.
RACE 5 – Maidens for $12,500 and there are a few to look at. The experienced ones to beat are PURE MIRAGE and VINTAGE LYNN (not crazy about Tomahawk Sister at 6 furlongs) and there is a firster named MY CASH BOX who has Florida training and a fast gate workout.
RACE 6 – GYPSY RING will be odds on here, he has an 87 and 83 Beyer Figure from his last 2 starts, both at shorter distances and he is easily a DOUBLE ADVANTAGE BEYER horse.
If you believe that a paired top of Beyer Figures can only lead to a big regression who would you pick? Perhaps the other recent winner D’s Legend Storm
RACE 7 -These are once promising maidens who are now in for claiming. CARNDUFF was the most expensive yearling Canada two years ago, DINO DINARO ahows some ability last year and BEARS PICK has had big workout times. All 3 take the big drop to maiden claiming. TALKNOW could be a favourite off the good debut run when claimed. Tough race.
RACE 8 – This is a dismal group of maiden gals with HOPE’S PASS a favourite, SEREAN’S ROCK a price play and firster PUZZLE DREAM looking better than the rest.

With attendance and handle figures falling every year, with the media tuning out the game and with new fans hard to find, it was easy to conclude that people don’t much like horse racing anymore. Just two days into the 2010 Monmouth Park “Elite Summer Meet,” it’s already clear that’s not the case. It’s lousy horse racing that people don’t like.
The “Miracle at Monmouth” is underway. Business went through the roof at the pretty Jersey Shore track this weekend. They bet $16.4 million there over the first two days, which is about $9 million more than was bet overall on the first two days of the 2009 meet. The $9.3 million wagered on opening day, when 17,903 showed up for the event, was the largest handle ever at Monmouth Park for a non-Haskell Day.
A track that was doing so badly that its very future was in doubt is now the hottest thing in the game and the talk of the sport. It’s a place that has future Hall of Fame jockeys like Garrett Gomez and John Velazquez taking up residence on the Jersey Shore this summer and trainers like Nick Zito, Todd Pletcher, Steve Asmussen and Rick Dutrow focusing their attention on the Monmouth condition book. It’s the track that horseplayers all across North America are discovering and concluding that there is no better place to wager their hard-earned dollars.
How’d they do it? They got back to basics.

TRACK RECORD AT NORTHLANDS PARK LAST WEEK

Showers and a good – not fast – track didn’t stop Shakenwithanolive from smashing the Northlands Park 3.5-furlong track record in her Edmonton debut on Friday night.
The 26-year-old record (Steel Penny Black – June 14, 1984 – 38.20 seconds) fell in the seventh race when Shakenwithanolive and jockey Jorge Carreno won in 37.80 seconds.
Trained by Robertino Diodoro for owner Rick Wiest, Shakenwithanolive was making her first-ever start on an off-track. A four-year-old filly from the southern United States, she was privately purchased this spring and shipped north.

If you happened to be watching HPI TV on Monday. you may have seen a first-time starter at Finger Lakes named LISA’S BOOBY TRAP win her maiden by 17 3/4 lengths. It was an eye popping score but also made interesting since the jockey felt it necessary to hit the filly several times with the whip even though she was already ahead by a dozen lengths.
The winning filly is by Drewman-Ennuhway, by Notebook and was bred by Ocala Stud in Florida. She earned an 89 Beyer Figure.
Speaking of HPI TV, the complaints about MONMOUTH PARK not being on the channel that came rolling in to this site and a half dozen other folks with prominent positions at Woodbine seemed to has led to a change.
No statement or answer to e-mails was made but a check of the HPI website sees that Monmouth this weekend will be on HPI.
FAIRLIE GOOD – FROM GRAY TO GOLD won her 2nd consecutive race at Philadelphia Park on Monday in an allowance race. Claimed by Scott Fairlie for $12,500 late last year, the One Way Love filly appeared on Tuesday’s THOROUGHBRED DAILY NEWS;
