FRIDAY’S races – the high Beyer Speed Figure horse of the day wad the amazing 8-year-old DRINK IN MY HAND (Giant Gizmo) who won race 2, a starter allowance, with a 78 Beyer – 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17 1/5
It was the first day of grass racing and the turf races were raced on the entire course (started from Lane 1).
LOVE DADDY was a predictable winner of the first turf race, winning a maiden $25,000 race with tons of grass breeding and nice form as a 2yo last season. She is a Sid Attard trainee for Paul Mouttet, who has been buying a lot of 2yos this spring.
GATOR SPY won race 5, also his turf debut, as the son of Pollard’s Vision roared down the middle of the course to win this $15,000 claiming race for Wallace Thoroughbreds and trainer Renee Kierans. It was the 3rd timer Kierans has won with a first time turf starter from just 6 starts in the last 5 years.
GWENDOLINE H continues to amaze as she won for the 11th rime in her 22nd start in a $23,500 turf claiming race. The delicate 6yo mare is currently owned by Bruno Schickedanz.
The last race was a maiden allowance on turf and it went to GREY SEAL, dropping to maiden claiming for the first time for trainer Josie Carroll. The 4yo by Mizzen Mast had been winter raced. Melanie Pinto got a rare ride for the Carroll stable and guided the grey to victory.
