 LOUD AND PROUD

PROUD HEIRESS was a popular selection to upset the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes yesterday at Woodbine and just as the race figured to set up, that American invader swpet from more than 10 lengths off the pace to get up and win a 3 horse photo by a few inches. Beside her was last year’s champion sprinting mare TRIBAL BELLE and the grey mare SILVER Z.

PROUD HEIRESS came to Woodbine from her home base at Turfway Park for last year’s Whimsical and got going too late and was 3rd but she was a close 2nd in the Hendrie Stakes later in the spring.

A 6yo chestnut mare by Broken Vow, PROUD HEIRESS was winning for the 5th timein her 17th race and her earnings are now over $260,000. She was bred and is owned by New York’s Respite Farm, Michael Cavey and trained by Wayne Mogge.

The mare’s regular rider R. Prescott did not have a passport ready to get over the border and so agent John

Bell’s rider Chantal Sutherland was ‘lucky’ enough to pick up the mount.

MORE FROM SUNDAY AT WOODBINE

The most remarkable performance of the day was that of jockey ROBERT LANDRY, a champion rider and still going strong at age 47.

Landry, riding in just his 5th race of the meeting, went down with a thud when his mount COUNTER MOVE appeared to clip heels with either DUBLIN LANE or HEART OF A KING and then almost got run over by MICHAEL’S BAD BOY.

It was a scary spill and COUNTER MOVE ran off and appeared okay but Landry lay on the track for several minutes. Despite being at the top of the stretch, when he got up, the crowd clapped and whistled and then cheered as Landry walked all the way back to the front of the grandstand.

NORM FILES caught the events on camera…..thanks Norm! Head over to  flickr.com TO see more of Norm’s stuff.

Three-year-old Canadian-bred fillies could be very, very exciting this season.

With ROAN INISH and RESENTLESS ready to come back to action in the upcoming Fury Stakes (MAY 1), and with big maiden  winner EMBUR’S SONG holding that 99 Beyer Figure win from Saturday close to her pocket, yesterday came PLATINUM EXCHANGE, an Ontario bred owned by Jim and Susan Hill.

A chestnut gal by Exchange Rate out of Platinum Hope by Carr de Naskra, the 3yo had a long lead in her 6 1/2 furlong maiden allowance, was joined into the turn and then took off for a big win in 1:16.40, good for a 90 Beyer Figure.

The filly was making her 2nd career start for trainer Brian Lynch.

PLATINUM EXCHANGE is not currently eligible for the WOODBINE OAKS but is a Fury Stakes nominee along with her good stablemate ERNFOLD, who is trained by Roger Attfield.

Michael Byrne bred the filly, who was a $55,000 RNA’s weanling and then a $200,000 yearling purchase.

It was a Lynch and jockey Patrick Husbands Late Double as CAMBRIDGE BLUE romped in the last race for $10,000 claiming.

As for EMBUR’S SONG….Keeneland barn notes said:

The dominating show by Embur’s Song, a 3-year-old Unbridled’s Song filly owned by Fares Farm Inc., was rather unexpected.

“She was OK in the morning; she never really showed that much,” assistant Ginny DePasquale said. “She jumped up and surprised everybody. (Jockey) Garrett (Gomez) said out of the gate she just pulled him to the lead and just kept going.”

ONTARIO BRED PLATINUM EXCHANGE wins her maiden with a 90 Beyer Figure on Sunday – Oaks bound? She may be racing against her stablemate ERNFOLD soon.

apri19finr1.jpg WOODBINE RACES have been cool this season even if the field size has been light. Look at the 1st race on Sunday – CORREDOR’S D’AMOUR (red blinkers) is pushed over the line in front by Emma-Jayne Wilson as one of 2 winners on the card for Nick Gonzalez.

Cool shot, cool race

PAULICK REPORT REPORTS ON CANADIAN TRAINER SUSPENSION – ANTHONY ADAMO

By Ray Paulick

Anthony Adamo, who worked as racing manager and one of the trainers in one-time Eclipse Award-winning owner Michael Gill’s large Pennsylvania operation in 2009-10 has been suspended for 90 days by the stewards at Penn National Race Course in Grantville, Pa., for an incident that occurred nearly six months ago.

Adamo was suspended 30 days for “possession of four hypodermic needles and syringes on the grounds of Penn National” on Oct. 22—in violation of Pennsylvania Code, Title 58, Section 163.6 (C), 163.302 (A) 3, 163.312, 163.340 (A), (D) (E), 163.521 (J), 165.201. That suspension is due to begin April 26 and run through May 25.

A second suspension, to begin May 26 and run through July 24, is accompanied by a $1,000 fine. The official ruling states “after reviewing the testimony and evidence, the board of stewards determined that there was the intent to administer an unnatural and unauthorized substance to the horse Lion’s Park.” (Section 163.302 (A), (1), (2), (3), 163.309, 163.312, 163.317, 163.521 (F), (J), 163.340 (A), (D), (E), 165.201.) There was no date given for the incident, but Lion’s Park was entered and scratched by the stewards on the night of Oct. 22, the same night Adamo was charged with possession of the hypodermic needles and syringes.

WOODBINE ENTERTAINMENT’S new website has attracted a wide range of thoughts and ideas and comments and one of the more intriguing additions to the site is the addition of Thoroughbred videos.

It seems to have a great deal of potential for leading up to stakes and upcoming events. Currently on there are numerous jockey videos and surely there will be other people on there, and many workout videos.

Stars from last year such as Tasty Temptation and Milwaukee Appeal are shown in workouts.

Whether you are a fan of the new site or not, this is a good section as long as it continues to progress and include some worthy information.
