Roxy Gap could remain in stable
EUGENE MELNYK is leaving the breeding aspect of the thoroughbred industry and will focus on racing in years to come.
A group of 28 Melnyk mares are up for all this morning in Kentucky as part of a supplement book at the Fasig Tipton sale.
Some mares will be offered with foals following along since they just foaled.
TWEEDSIDE produced a Graeme Hall baby on the sales grounds on the weekend!

“I think it’s fair to say that we are effectively out of the breeding game, for now,” Melnyk told the TDN
yesterday. “But saying that, we may continue to breed the odd mare that has a wonderful page and is a
graded winner off the track. So we may still breed four or five mares a
year, just to maintain the family and then sell.”
ON ONTARIO SITUATION :
“There was some bizarre legislation that was proposed in Ontario that would have set back the
industry 20 years and depleted purses, said Melnyk.
“There is now a two-year moratorium, and I hope that everyone takes a hard look at not messing up a thing
that is finally fixed. If they do, we would certainly just focus on [racing in] Kentucky and New York.”

Melnyk shifts focus, selling mares at Fasig-Tipton

The blue and gold silks of award-winning owner-breeder Eugene Melnyk are a common sight in top-level events across North America, and although Melnyk is set to exit the breeding business, he hopes to continue his run of excellence on the track.
Melnyk will sell the majority of the remaining broodmares of his Winding Oaks Farm at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky winter mixed sale on Monday, part of a strategic plan to move away from a full-scale breeding operation to focus on a quality racing stable.
“Mr. Melnyk said, ‘I love the business, I want to stay in it, but we’re going to have to come up with a different plan,’ ” Winding Oaks manager Phil Hronec said. Melnyk bought the Ocala, Fla., property, formerly Mockingbird Farm, in 2001.

INGLORIOUS charges for 3rd
The tough luck of Queen’s Plate winner INGLORIOUS continued on the weekend when she finished 3rd in the Grade 3 Suwanee River Stakes. The Donver Stable champ was hard held at the back of the field through slow pace fractions and she was also quite sweaty. She rallied hard in the stretch but then hung late and missed 2nd place.
