INTRODUCING TODOS
Handicapping, evaluating and interpretation made simpler.
Welcome to the world of the new sheets TODOS STATS.
THOROUGHBLOG gets a chance to study and test out new handicapping methods frequently and these days, the TODOS STATS are the focus.
Computed and formed by some local horsemen, the TODOS not only give you a simply layout of a horses progression from recent races with its intricate numbers (the higher the better) but the accompanying graph is invaluable to denote horses going on or off form.
THOROUGHBLOG had quick success using and interpreting the numbers in early studies.
Alsmost as important is the fact that TODOS is superior in its numbers for Europeans and, with big racing days coming up at Arlington and elsewhere as the fall season approaches, these numbers will be golden.
FROM THE TODOS WEBSITE: “Todos”(pronounced Toe-doughs) is Spanish for “ALL” the name reflects our philosophy, that we are taking what we consider to be the most important variables to evaluate horses and putting them ALL into a single number.
Here’s what it has:
1. Different speed components including acceleration and speed over distance, determine athleticism
2. Class
3. Trip adjustments
4. Track adjustments (distance, surface, actual different racetracks)

Haskell Invitational next for Rachel Alexandra
By Dan Farley
SUPERFILLY Rachel Alexandra is to have her next run in the $1 million Haskell Invitational Handicap at Monmouth Park in New Jersey on August 2, her connections announced on Tuesday.
The Grade 1 race will be Rachel Alexandra’s second start against males. She won the middle leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes on May 16, in between two stunningly easy triumphs against her own gender in the Kentucky Oaks and Mother Goose Stakes.
Jess Jackson, who owns Rachel Alexandra, chose the Haskell over the $1m Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park on Sunday and the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont Park on July 25, for three-year-old fillies but worth only $300,000.

ASSINIBOIA DOWNS
Racing cancelled last night during storm
FROM ASSINIBOIA DOWNS:
Dear Race Fans;
We would like to explain our rationale behind the decision to cancel our races on Tuesday, July 24.
First and foremost, our apologies for the inconvenience that was caused to you and your plans for the evening.
The reason that the cancellation was not released until mid afternoon was to allow for the ability to access the most current weather forecasts for the evening. In fairness to all affected parties (patrons, horse owners, trainers, jockeys, Assiniboia Downs, etc.) we do not take the decision to cancel lightly and therefore do not make a decision in haste.
We contacted environment Canada early in the morning to get an initial detailed forecast, specifically as it related to the estimated temperature and humidex rating for the evening race card.
The initial results were at a level that required serious consideration to cancellation to be humane to the horses and jockeys…
RELATED NOTES – MONSOON RAIN DOES IT AGAIN!
PRESS RELEASE:
Monsoon does it again….and again
It’s becoming a broken record in big races for older horses: Monsoon Rain repeats as the winner of the $30,000 Wheat City Stakes. And his trainer now has double the stakes wins of any other trainer at the track.
“You are not as shocked as you were in the Free Press,” commented owner Larry Carter to Kirt Contois in the post-race interview.
In the Free Press Stakes, Monsoon Rain put away 2008 Sprinter of the Year Rock’n USA, in a much anticipated battle of the two champions where all eyes were on “The Rock” but the Wheat City was old hat this time for the 2008 Horse of the Year. Sitting off the flank of early leader Arthurlooksgood, Monsoon Rain with Carlos Marquez aboard made his move going into the final turn and looked like a champion heading home, winning easily.
Trainer Chad Torevell captured his fourth stakes race of the year with Monsoon twice as many as any other trainer on the grounds: two with Monsoon Rain, the Golden Boy with Theglow and the Frank Arnason with Percolating No Reply, trained by Emile Corbel, finished a credible second after reversing tactics he had used against Monsoon Rain in their previous race.
HARRY JEFFRY STAKES
No Southdale, Hilton’s Cherokee wins maiden
– The Downs’ primo 3-year-old colt, Theglow, unfortunately had to sit out Saturday’s Harry Jeffrey stakes because of a virus which has affected horses in a couple of barns. So it was an Eastern interloper, Hilton’s Cherokee, who towered over the field.
With only two lifetime starts, Hilton’s Cherokee, trained by Emile Corbel, will be Theglow’s early main challenger in the Manitoba Derby Aug. 3 providing Theglow gets healthy soon. Having Run his first two starts at Keeneland in Kentucky, and Woodbine in Toronto, Hilton’s Cherokee appears to have class on his side. In his first start at Keeneland, home of champions, Hilton’s Cherokee finished seventh behind
Southdale. Southdale finished third in that race and went on to finish second in the Queen’s Plate Trial.
With the horse breaking greenly out of the gate, three-time leading rider Alan Cuthbertson had his hands full down the homestretch. “He is known to break bad,” said Cuthbertson. “He got a little confused just out of the gate. He seemed to want to take a left hand turn coming out of the chute.”
“Once I got him straightened out he wanted to rock and roll and I didn’t fight him.” And rock and roll he did, pulling Cuthbertson to the lead going around the first turn to collared early leader Secret Officer down the backstretch. Figure 2 Hilton’s Cherokee captures 2008 Harry Jeffrey Memorial – photo by Gerry Hart “He’s a classy horse,” said owner Phil Kives. “We’ll see how he shapes up.” referring to possible participation in the Manitoba Derby.
Morsel, the only filly in the race, sat behind leaders down the backstretch but could not get to the winner in the stretch. Trained by high-percentage trainer Charlie Smith, Morsel was in an all-out drive but came up second best. Storm Ranger, also trained by Emile Corbel, was last going down the backside, but rallied to nose out early leader Secret Officer for third
WILLIE LOOKS GOOD FOR CANADIAN DERBY
NORTHLANDS REPORT
By Jonathan Huntington
Robo Willie just keeps winning in Edmonton. Now a four-time stake winner at Northlands Park, the three-year-old colt is looking good on the Canadian Derby trail. Capturing today’s $50,000 Ky Alta Handicap by just over a length, the Greg Tracy-trained pupil is four-for-six in his career in Edmonton for owner Stan Ryan.
“He did awesome,” said Tracy, referring to jockey Rickey Walcott’s ride on Robo Willie. “He got (Robo Willie) to settle. He was a little rank early. Next time he should rate a littler better.”
Making just his second career attempt at a race longer than seven furlongs, Robo Willie didn’t appear to settle as easily as Cool Diablo. But it was Robo Willie who crossed the wire first at the end of the one mile event, leaving Cool Diablo in second. Tease The Tiger finished third. “It’s perfect schooling,” continued Tracy on his colt learning the ropes in short fields.
Showing no interest in shipping to Winnipeg for the $75,000 Manitoba Derby in early August, Tracy will leave Robo Willie to be the morning-line favourite for the $50,000 Count Lathum at Northlands on Aug. 1 – which will be the final local Canadian Derby prep. The $300,000 Derby is set for Aug. 22 in Edmonton.

HASTINGS PARK REPORT
2yo stakes winner is named HUITZI….what the?
PRESS RELEASE:
Huitzilopochtli (“Wheet-Zee-Lo-Pote-Lee”) Confuses Anouncer But Wins Anyway
A 2-year-old colt named after an Aztec God of the Sun and the War won the $50,000 River Rock Resort Stakes Sunday afternoon at Hastings Racecourse, much to the chagrin of track announcer Dan Jukich.
Huitzilopochtli, whose name means “Blue Hummingbird on the Left”, gained the lead on the backstretch and drew clear under jockey Fernando Perez to beat favourite Dyna Stroll by a length and a half. Perez, the leading rider at Hastings, won five races on the day.
Owned by Lara Racing Stables and trained by Juan Olmos, Huitzilopochtli paid $9.60, $4.20 and $4.80. He traveled the six furlongs distance in a final time of 1:11.56.
The gelding is 2 for 2 in his career and is by the B.C. Derby winner WANDERING out of ALWAYS A STAR by SUNNY’S HALO.
Emerald City hit the jackpot in Saturday’s $50,000 Boulevard Casino Stakes, Boulevard Casino and River Rock Resort are owned by Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, the parent company of Hastings Entertainment Inc.
