STRONACH PAYS $1.085 MILLION FOR MARE
Frank Stronach and family’s ADENA SPRINGS bought the sales topper on DAY 2 at the Keeneland January sale – dishing out $1,085,000 for MISS ISELLA, a 4-year-old SILVER CHARM mare who won $648,000 on the track including the Grade II Falls City Handicap and Grade II Lousiville Distaff.
The mare was just retired so she sold as a broodmare prospect.
Stronach told reporters she may be bred to GHOSTZAPPER.

AUTHENICAT STAYS WITH VINERY
Multiple stakes winner AUTHENICAT was bought by Vinery yesterday at Keeneland for $300,000, completing what appears to be a buy out of previous partner in the filly Fog City Stable.
Bred by Gail Wood, the D’Wildcat filly has won almost $700,000 and has been a steady performer on the Woodbine circuit for a couple of years.
Canadians had been quiet after Day one at the sale but DAVE COTEY’S DOMINION BLOODSTOCK bought a Sharp Humor 2-year-old filly for $4,500. The ‘racing or broodmare prospect’ is a three-quarter sister to a stakes placed colt and Grade 1 winner COMMENTATOR.
Cotey also paid $9,000 for a filly by JOHAR out of the Grade II winner LARAMIE MOON, dam of stajes winner
WOODMOON. The 2-year-old is a racing or broodmare prospect.
WINDWAYS FARMS (Jeff and Annabel Begg) paid $75,000 for the Canadian-bred mare NITE IN ROME, a Harlan’s Holiday 4-year-old, graded stakes placed, in foal to LANGFUHR. Nite In Rome, sold by lane’s End, is out of the
Ascot Knight mare Ascot Wedding and this is the family of stakes winners STAR ENGAGEMENT, SIMPLE SISTER and $800,000 earner Kabul.
KNOB HILL STABLE, buying through agent GLENN SIKURA bought a mare at the auction. The farm, now run by Sally Stavro and family, paid $20,000 for LADY DANZA, a 7-year-old Cryptoclearance mare, a stakes-placed winner, in foal to HEATSEEKER. The mare has a 2-year-old and yearling to this point.
Former Woodbine based filly DEPUTY CURES BLUES sold for $125,000 to Marshall Silverman, agent in foal to Malibu Moon. The stakes winner by War Deputy has 3 foals already and her dam, MAY TIME, is a possibility for a nomination as BROODMARE OF THE YEAR in Canada for 2009.
Trainer PAT PARENTE, agent for owner FRANK SANSANO bought a yearling filly from the first crop of Grade I
winner SCAT DADDY. The filly is out of the Giant’s Causewau mare Homeward – the mare is a 1/2 sister to Grade III stakes winner Old Forester. The combination also bought the last horse from the sale yesterday – a Borrego 2-year-old colt that sold as a racing or stallion propsect.
EARLE MACK, who raced Canadian Triple Crown winner PETESKI, has bought an Ontario bred yearling colt. Mack paid $105,000 (through Northshore Bloodstock) for a colt out of stakes placed MAHALO (by Gulch). The mare is out of multiple stakes winner BABY RABBIT, the dam of Grade 2 stakes winner SPANISH CHESTNUT. Eaton Sales sold the Ontario-bred.

SAMMY STILL GOING
CANADIANS ELSEWHERE
SIX PACK SAMMY, one of the winningest horses in Canada in 2009, started off 2010 with a bang as she won a $20,000 claiming race at Philadelphia Park by more than 5 lengths yesterday for George Farr’s Farr Bloodstock. Trained by Scott Fairlie, the Yonaguska filly, bred in Ontario, is out of Sara Six Pack and was bred by Denny Andrews.
She was claimed yesterday by Dana Point Stable.
Six Pack Sammy won 5 races at Woodbine last year, tied with 3 others for the most wins at that meeting.
Trainer MIKE NEWELL’s CRYING THE BLUES, an Ontario bred by Kiridashi – Blue Basin, won a $2,500 claiming race at Beulah Park in Ohio yesterday.
Sent off at even-money, the mare won by 1 1/2 lengths.
Today at GULFSTREAM, trainers MARK FROSTAD and JOSIE CARROLL have fillies in a maiden allowance event.
At TAMPA BAY DOWNS, stakes winner RETRACEABLE is in an allowance race for trainer MARK CASSE.
