NIIGON’S EDGE ON THE RISE

Chiefswood Stable’s flashy chestnut colt NIIGON’S EDGE had a super run in a 2 -turn allowance race at Gulfstream on Sunday and is improving nicely from his 2-year-old season. The son of Niison out of Lemon edge by Lemon Drop Kid is trained by Stuart Simon. The colt posted a 79 Beyer for what was certainly a good learning experience on the dirt on Sunday and he had plenty of traffic, was a bit rank but he finished well. Dawn Kay of Woodbine caught up with the colt:

EURICO DA SILVA IN HONG KONG FOR MARCH

Fulfilling a dream, top Woodbine rider Eurico da Silva is going to ride in Hong Kong this month and Woodbine caught up with the 40-year-old:

There was a time – he can’t quite recall the year – when Eurico Rosa da Silva was standing shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of fans trackside at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong. As the horses charged down the stretch, he took pause, briefly, and said to himself, ‘One day, I’ll be back here to ride.’ He kept his word.

The elation in his voice is obvious when Woodbine’s leading rider in 2015 picks up the phone. Even amid the drudgery of packing for a long flight, 15-plus hours, the 40-year-old jockey can’t contain his enthusiasm.
