PERFECT SHIRL HEADED TO ARGENTINA FOR DEC. 17 ‘PELLEGRINI
from Brisnet.com
Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Perfect Shirl, trained by Woodbine-based Roger Attfield, will make her next start in the Group 1 Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini at San Isidro Racecourse, near Buenos Aires, on December 17.
The Charles Fipke homebred surged to the lead in deep stretch to win the Filly and Mare Turf on November 4 at Churchill Downs.
Attfield is excited at the opportunity to travel with the multiple graded stakes winner.
“I’m quite looking forward to it, it will be another adventure,” said Attfield over the phone from Payson Park in Florida.
Perfect Shirl, a four-year-old daughter of Perfect Soul, has been training forwardly at Payson Park following her Breeders’ Cup victory and was initially expected to start in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase on December 11, but, at the behest of Fipke, the filly will make her next start in the Pellegrini instead.
“She’s doing great, otherwise we wouldn’t even think about it,” Attfield said. “We were going to go to Hong Kong and our plans got changed, so we’re going down to Argentina.”
Since the 27-1 upset Breeders’ Cup score, Perfect Shirl has breezed twice at Payson Park including a smart five-furlong effort in 1:00 flat over the turf on Tuesday.
Attfield will try to keep the filly on as regular a training schedule as possible en route to the 2400-meter (1 1/2 miles) one-turn turf tilt, while maneuvering through quarantine. Perfect Shirl will be EVA-tested twice prior to the race, with one sample to be provided prior to her departure and another upon arrival at San Isidro.

CANADIAN OWNED ‘TERROR’ WINS AT FAIR GROUNDS

Hammers Terror wins at Fair Grounds, is headed to Lecomte
By Bob Fortus, The Times-Picayune
Hammers Terror on Thursday passed his first two-turn test, winning an allowance/optional claiming race at the Fair Grounds, and trainer Mike Stidham said the colt will race next in the Lecomte.
Ridden by James Graham, Hammers Terror stalked Hard Nosed until the horses reached the final turn in the mile-and-70 yard race. Hammers Terror grabbed the lead entering the stretch and opened daylight. Adena’s Chance, who had a rough trip, was gaining in the final furlong but finished second, 2 ¾ lengths behind, in a field of seven 2-year-olds.
A son of Artie Schiller, Hammers Terror ran the distance in 1:44.72 and paid $2.80.
In his debut, he finished second, losing by a nose to Luke of York, in a six-furlong race Sept. 24 at Arlington Park. The race was run on Polytrack, a synthetic surface. Hammers Terror won on Polytrack at Keeneland in a seven-furlong race Oct. 20 in his second start.
“We were concerned coming off the Poly how he’d handle the dirt, but his dirt works were great,’’ Stidham said.

A.P. INDY 5YO WINS IN TRINIDAD
Memorable day at Santa Rosa
By Marlon Miller
IT WAS the return of a hometown hero, it was Carnival in December, and it was a day of racing that will long be remembered by all those in attendance at Santa Rosa Park on Saturday December 3.
The inaugural Caribbean Nations Racing Challenge lived up to the pre-event hype thanks to a cadre of top-class international jockeys, including Trinidad and Tobago’s own Emile Ramsammy; star performances by horses from St Kitts of all places; and a bumper crowd absorbing the electric atmosphere surrounding a much-anticipated sporting extravaganza.
Veteran Peruvian rider Edgar Prado got the ball rolling with back-to-back winners for tiny St Kitts, astride Tizbig and Bad Action. But these were no small island half-breeds with dodgy pedigrees, both being impeccably-bred in the USA and with conformations to match.
Race caller and tipster Eddie Arneaud said Tizbig is the best-looking horse he ever saw in Trinidad, while a knowledgable punter put $500 on the nose on sight alone of the six-year-old bay horse by two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow. And the best was still to come from the Kittitian team…
After Prado set tongues wagging with his early double, it was the turn of Corey Nakatani to steal the spotlight with his two-timer aboard Cubic Capacity, owned by the Ahamad brothers, and Galveston, the latter running in the colours of Shivam Maharaj and trained by Derick Mosca, both of whom enjoyed a profitable day with two winners on the lucrative ten-race card which boasted total prize money of US$650,000.
