If you watched the lengthy ECLIPSE AWARDS show from California on any number of channels, tv or online, then you were treated to some interesting winners, some really genuine folks who love their horses and many very long acceptable speeches.
Yours truly did not make it to the end (11 p.m.-ish) and those folks sitting there before dinner were there for some 4 hours since cocktail hour (see DRF’s Mike Watchmaker, below) and before dinner.
Dinner first!!
The results were close to what I had voted, although I did not put ANIMAL KINGDOM on top for champion 3yo in a weak division (and he only won by 3 votes) and I did not vote for STACELITA, I voted for Never Retreat! She didn’t make the top three.
Frank Stronach accepted another Adena Springs breeding title, certainly it has strength in numbers. It was nice to see him thank his wife Frieda, stating”she doesn’t let me sell any broodmares”.
Funny stuff comes from the lists of voting totals and Daily Racing Form’s Mike Watchmaker talks about this – someone voted for COURT VISION FOR HORSE OF THE YEAR! Wow.
Hansen is a beauty – the champion 2yo colt is expected back Jan. 29 in the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream – Wendy Wooley/EquiSport photos
