FRANK STRONACH’S VISION
It seems that every few years for the last many decades there is word that Frank Stronach has a new vision for horse racing.
From racing syndicates at affordable prices to racing channels and websites to his continued support of the Ontario breeding industry with his impressive stallion station in Aurora.
His biggest idea yet comes to fruition Saturday – the $12 million Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream – a unique race that harkens back to the early days of horse racing; I’ll put up $1 million if you put up $1 million and let’s see whose horse is faster.
In its first year, and Stronach admitted to the Toronto Star that it came about quickly and there is some tweaking to do, the race has attracted the most valuiable horse in the world, Arrogate, and the richest horse int he world, California Chrome.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN!
This week, Jean Moorhead celebrated her 96th birthday with family and friend at http://lacapanninarestaurant.ca/home in Brampton.
Jean is betting Gulfstream Park these days and told me that PACO LOPEZ is her favourite rider and she bets him in every race.
Her daughter Gail Tiller and son-in-law Robert Tiller hold a big party for Jean’s birthday each year – Jean is very popular with the racing community.
Congrats Jean!
Jean’s late husband is trainer Larry Moorhead.

CANADIAN-BRED THISONESFORRON FAVOURED FOR TRINIDAD HORSE OF THE YEAR TITLE
http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20170119/sports/thisonesforron-gets-deserving-rest
THISONESFORRON, the short-priced favourite for the 2016 Horse of the Year title, has been given a deserving rest. He is expected to return to competitive racing around May 30 – Indian Arrival Day.
The 2016 Horse of the Year will be announced on February 15 at the annual Jetsam Awards ceremony that will be held at Queen’s Park Oval; Thisonesforron won the 2,000-metre Gold Cup last December and followed up with a runner-up slot behind Control Unit in the Sian’s Gold Sprint on New Year’s Day.
Trainer John O’Brien, speaking to the Express yesterday morning at Santa Rosa Park, said the Alberta-bred horse underwent a surgical procedure on its right hind joint to remove a chip (a bony fragment) at the Veterinary Division of the Eric Williams Science Complex two weeks ago.
O’Brien stated that the procedure was successful, and the horse will out of action for close to three-and-a-half months. Thisonesforron, a bay six-year-old son of Gilded Time/Muddy Miss by Ares Vallis has had 39 career starts, consisting of nine on the turf and 30 on the main track. He won nine races on the main track, placed second on 10 occasions and third six times, earning $840,000. He also won four races on the turf and finished second on five occasions, with earnings of $522,853 from his nine starts.
Thisonesforron was bred by Cavendish Investing.
