RAHY’S ATTORNEY, last year’s champion turf male horse, might be even better this year than he was in 2008.
That’s a wild concept.
But there he was, darting away from a solid field over soggy turf in the Nijinsky Stakes with almost 2 furlongs left to run and no one caughthim.
Marchfield tried, Eugene Melnyk’s colt rallied well, but rahy’s Attorney is a monster – a 105 Beyer Figure yesterday almost matched his 106 from his previous race.
Now, is it on to the 7 furlong Play the King or the Sky Classic at 1 3/8 miles, both on turf but both on August 23??

Race 9 – KINSHASA’S PARADIS is getting to hard to handle and may be barred from racing for a while after his 2nd bolting incident out of the gate. The move took almost nobody by surprise, he did it 2 races ago and he had the inside again yesterday.
In that same race, while YOU DON’T PASS won for the 2nd time in 3 races with an inside rally, that one bore outbadly at the break and interfered with Tempesta di Neve.
There was no inquiry.
DOCTOR JACK, 71 Beyer yesterday, is a nice 2yo prospect for RMC Stable and trainer Dan Vella. The colt is by Where’s the Ring, was a $28K local yearling and a $42K 2yo in training and he won his 3rdcareer race yesterday after being stakes placed.
He is out of the mare Hippicritical, from the family of Miss Hyperion, dam of Moon Mist. Doctor Jack was bred by Gardiner Farms.
Rahy’s Attorney with his peeps – the Fan Club for the horse had a party at the track and then celebrated his win – at his head is Ellen McLellan who owns the gelding with her hubby Joe, sunglasses amd other partners.

FORT ERIE REPORT
Spread the News impressive in Valliere Memorial at the Fort.
FORT ERIE, July 26 – Spread the News exploded to the lead around the far turn and held off all late runners to score a ¾ length win in the Don Valliere Memorial Cup Sunday at Fort Erie .
With Melanie Pinto in the irons, the son of Cat’s at Home blew by the front runners and opened up a three length lead in the final two furlongs of the six furlong sprint.
“I had so much horse going into the turn I couldn’t believe it,” said Pinto. “We blew by the leaders but I knew we still had to worry about the late closers. He ran a big race today and we held them off.”
Owned by Tom Grimes and trained by John Simms, Spread the News is now three for three on the main track this year at the Fort. His only two losses came against tougher company on the turf.
Spread the News covered the six furlongs in 1:10 3/5 and paid $10.10 to win. Break Even closed to finish second ahead of Great Addiction who also rallied from off the pace to finish third.
The exactor paid $80.40, the triactor returned $285.00.
The Cup series resumes next Sunday when fillies and mares meet in the one mile and one sixteenth Mike Anderson Memorial.
And…Brad Wilson notches first win as a jockey.
FORT ERIE, July 26 – Jockey Bradley Wilson picked up his first win as a jockey guiding Lucius Vorenus to a three length victory in Sunday’s fifth race at Fort Erie .
The 24 year-old Burlington native was thrilled to finally get his first win. “I feel great,” he said. “It’s a thrill to finally get the monkey off my back.”
Wilson, who is a graduate of the Chris McCarron Riding School , rode his first race here at Fort Erie June 28 finishing second aboard Baileysinheritance.
“I spent two years at the McCarron School ,” said Wilson . “The final six months is placement and I was lucky to be placed with trainer Reade Baker. It was a great experience.”
Lucius Vorenus, who is trained by Nick Gonzalez, returned $12.60, $5.80 and $3.70. Executive move finished second for an exactor payoff of $47.30, Living the Life completed the triactor for a return on $150.60.

DASHING ADMIRAL lost for $4,00 claiming at Fort Erie yesterday. A stakes winner of $507,000, he won a lot of money for owner/breeder John and Jessica Patorek, who won a race eysertday with the old timer’s brother, Lady’s First Cat.
VEGAS VENTURE, at age 9, is in for $12,500 claiming Wednesday at Woodbine, He has won $406,000 and 10 of 57 races.

Official Says Neglect Continues at Paragallo’s Farm

Ernie Paragallo, a prominent New York breeder already facing 22 charges of animal cruelty, continues to neglect 84 horses that remain on his Center Brook Farm and may face additional charges, according to an animal cruelty official.
Ron Perez, the president of the Humane Society/Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Greene and Columbia Counties, said he and Dr. Jerry Bilinski, a veterinarian, were permitted on the farm July 3, when they discovered that many of the horses were not being fed or cared for properly.
“Many of the yearlings were underweight,” said Perez, whose agency has already found homes for more than 70 horses that were found in dire shape on the farm in April. “When we were there, many still had lice and still needed to be wormed. Two horses were in need of immediate veterinarian attentions, which we provided and followed up on. These horses would’ve died badly had we not sent in Dr. Bilinski.”

Woodbine jockey DEAN DEVERELL rode rode the gelding to victory in the 330 yard dash.

Count Lathum this weekend,last prep for Derby
The final local prep race for the 80th Canadian Derby has attracted 10 nominations – with two invaders on that list. El Cugat headlines the possible contenders for the $50,000 Count Lathum Handicap on Aug. 1.
The winner of the Chris Loseth Handicap in Vancouver on July 1, the Alan May-trained runner has won two straight and five of his last six. “He’s already here (in Edmonton),” said Northlands race secretary Jason Teague. “He worked yesterday in 1:02.2 (over five furlongs).” Pop Artist – from Vancouver-based trainer Dino Condilenios – is also nominated.
Robo Willie and Casey’s On Call lead the local three-year-olds eligible for the one-mile and one-sixteenth test next Saturday. Casey’s On Call is coming off a win in the Western Canada Handicap in Edmonton on Canada Day. Trainer Riley Rycroft named Perry Winters to ride – keeping a promise to have Winters on the runner. Robo Willie captured the Ky Alta Handicap on July 11 at Northlands. Rickey Walcott will ride next weekend.
“I think we will get seven or eight (entries),” predicted Teague.
