EXPLODE, placed first in the Canadian Derby – Grade 3, earned an 84 Beyer Speed |Figure for his win in the 1 1/4 mile classic. He raced the distance in 2:01.52.

EXPLODE, now with four consecutive wins, three of them stakes races, moves near the top of the 3-year-old ranks in canada along with Tone Broke and Avie’s Flatter.

He is a son of Trappe Shot – Light Blow by Kingmambo and was a $2,500 weanling purchase at the Keeneland November sale. He was bought back by owner Ole A Nielsen for $15,000.

His dam, a winner, has had three other foals, two to race. The second dam, Lingerie, is the dam of Epsom Oaks winner LIGHT SHIFT (by Kingmambo, thus a three-quarter dister to Explode). Light Shift is the dam of Eclipse Stakes (Group 1) winner ULYSSES.

MR. HUSTLE, owned by Bill Werner and trained by Roger Attfield, remained unbeaten when he won the Soaring Free Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday on yielding grass. The son of Declaration of War – Ready Ready Ready by More Than Ready earned a 77 Beyer Figure for his Soaring Free win over Werner’s Pleasecallmeback, a son of Hard Spun.

Mr. Hustle cost $235,000 as a yearling at Keeneland and he is 3 for 3 as he also won the Victoria Stakes.

This could set up a fascinating Grade 1 Summer Stakes next month between Mr.Hustle and another unbeaten juvenile, KEEP ON TRUCKIN, the Ontario-sired and bred colt who won the Clarenson Stakes with a 92 Beyer Figure.
