HOT HORSES AND PEOPLE at Woodbine, only 7 racing days left! Results and picks and lots more!
He may not have clothes that match (blinkers and silks) but the wascally JENNA’S WABBIT is a wery, I mean very, good 2yo who will be odds on to win today’s Kingarvie Stakes at Woodbine.

CONTRERAS PICKING UP SPEED
Luis Contreras is finishing the season like he started it – riding a whirlwind of winners. The visiting rider, who, like Jesse Campbell, got enough paperwork assembled to be allowed to ride in Canada, is Woodbine’s leading rider and not only than, hit 200 winners on a 3-win day yesterday.
The record of 221 wins in one season was set by Mickey Walls. Contreras has about 12 chances for wins this weekend and then 5 more days…it could happen.

THURSDAY , FRIDAY
Tiller, Baker, Contrerras, Cryptograph!
The story lines for the last 7 days of the season include Luis Contreras chasing the wins record, there are some 2yo boys on the charts this weekend and one of them could win the champion for top 2yo.
Today it’s the giant boy JENNA’S WABBIT going again Ontario sired guys in the Kingarvie, a well known, autumn event while tomorrow, MARITIMER, the Coronation Futurity winner, heads a tougher field in the Display Stakes.
Quick wrap from last 2 days:
THURSDAY – Ontario bred SENSE OF PRIDE came off a May-Nov. layoff for new trainer Roger Attfield to win a maiden allowance in her 8th race. Blinkers on, fresh, big Beyers.
The SAFFIR 2yo MAXINE’S PRIDE was a upset winner of a 2yo allowance for Kelynack and Steven Duffield. The Ontario bred cost $7,000 and she has won more than $55,000. She was coming off a 7 week break and dropping out of stakes company for trainer Ricky Griffith.
The parade of Reade Baker-trained winners begins in race 3 – the Bear Stables is also on a roll.
FLATTER FLIRT was an easy winner of her maiden with a huge Beyer Figure advantage. She was re-claimed by Audre Cappuccitti for $25,000.
Baker has won 4 races in 3 days.
Kentucky-bred beginner WICKED ROMANCE was touted as a possibility in Daily Racing Form for race 5 and she won her debut at 20 to 1 for True North Stable and trainer Lorne Richards. Strong breeding and a high % debut sire.
more Bear sightings: BEAR’S QUEEN, by El Corredor, won her debut for $25,00 and note, she was also bred by the Bear. She was not claimed.
Stakes winner TURFISTE won again for $8,000 claiming for G Watts Humphrey – the Military horse has 7 wins and $225,000 in earnings.
Congrats to trainer Sylvester oliverre who won his first race of the season in Thursday’s finale with GREEN WEAVER – (ooo, ooo Greeeen Weava), a maiden $12,500 event.
FRIDAY – BEAR’S KITTY KITTY started off her career purrfectly with a strong debut win under Justin Stein. Yep, another Bear/Baker winner and she is a Rockport Harbor filly who was claimed by Janice Attard for $32,000.
TIGRA MARA was a very predictable winner at a nice 3 to 1 for the Jam Jar Stable and trainer John Ross in a $20K claiming event – well ridden by Gerry Olguin.
FORUM’S BEST finally won her maiden in her 18th try and she won for $23,500 and is a half sister to champion Milwaukee Appeal, now owned by Ace Racing and Scott Fairlie.
MAJOR MARVEL won his 5th race of the meeting and is tied for 2nd for most wins. He was claimed from Tucci Stables for $12,500 and goes to Maggi Moss.
Moss’s trainer Steve Asmussen won the 5th with the Ontario bred SACSAYWAMAN, taking her 2nd consecutive win and hot horses are tough at this time of season.
BEAR’S MESSAGE had a bad strat but won his debut for…the Bear Stables! But this time it was trainer Mike DePaulo who had this 2yo son of local sire Cryptograph ready to win a 2 turn debut at the maiden allowance level. The colt was an $8,000 purchase and was bred by John Carey.
What do Frank DiGiulio and Robert Tiller have on their hands with ANYWHERE? This gal is now 3 for 3 and earned a 72 Beyer Figure in her allowance win on Friday for Ontario sired gals. She is by Where’s the Ring out of Dan’s Duchess, by Domasca Dan.
More Tiller in the next race (and Contreras too) as MR. MONTY came right back from a maiden win 12 days ago to win a 2yo allowance for Ontario sired guys. He’s a son of Old Forester bred by Gardiner Farms and owned by 3 Sons Racing.
Natural hat trick for the Tiller Stable is completed yesterday by yet another 2yo winner by local sire Cryptograph (Cryptoclearance). TUXEDO RAY won his 2nd career start on the stretch out with a good Beyer Figure from his debut outing compared to his rivals. He was 2 to 1 and earned a 52 Beyer Figure.
