One of the most intricate, intriguing and downright unpredictable aspects of horse racing is breeding. E P Taylor said “breed the best to the best” and we know how well he did with that plan.
But the process, the results, the champions, well, anything can happen.
The Oaks is the classic race for Canadian born 3-year-old fillies and a win, or a good placing in this event, goes a long way for the owners down the line if they want to breed or sell the filly.
FLAMING PAGE, COOL MOOD, SOUTH OCEAN, SQUARE ANGEL, KAMAR, CLASSY N SMART, DANCE SMARTLY all foundation-type mares who went on to produce champions, stakes winners or other producers of note.
You don’t get a racehorse without starting with a mare and one day, this year’s Oaks winner will join a long list of wonderful mamas and hopefully she too will pass along her genes and continue to add to Canadian racing history.
