Pharlap Wins Melbourne Cup

The 161st Melbourne Cup, at 2 miles on the turf, will be run Tuesday, November 2 with a post time of 3 p.m. Australia time (12 midnight Monday Eastern)

Only 11 horses have ever won the Caulfield-Melbourne Cup double — Ethereal was the last to do so, 20 years ago.

Co-owner and breeder Steve Tregea, featured in a FoxSports.com story on his Cup favourite said, “Heart as big as Phar Lap? We’ve always joked about the fact he’s probably got a heart as big as a pea. He’s a bit of a sook,” he says, explaining the horse’s aversion to going into certain areas.
