The Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale wrapped up Thursday, Jan. 14 with an increase in average price and median price. At the auction, held Jan. 11-14, a total of 963 horses sold for $45,522,100, for an average of $47,271 and a median of $15,000.

The 2020 January Sale, which covered five sessions, had 1,050 horses sell for $40,453,300, for an average of $38,527 and a median of $13,000.

Despite travel restrictions, Canadians were busy during all four days of the sale and Thursday saw a number of horses purchased by owners, trainers and breeders. (For other day’s sales reports, see Jan 14th and Jan 13th posts.)

Cole Bennett as agent for Manitoba owner and breeder Barry Arnason signed the ticket for the mare STRAWBERRY FLASH, by Alphabet Soup for $17,000. The 13-year-old mare is the dam of stakes winner Our Silver Oak and is in foal to Accelerate.

Bennett paid $4,000 for CITY GIFT, a City Place mare who is the dam of stakes placed Eddie’s Gift.

Bennett stands new stallion SIR DUDLEY DIGGES in 2021 and is picking up mares for him. City Gift is in foal to Brody’s Cause.

Bennett, as agent for Manitoba breeder Larry Falloon, bought the Henrythenavigator mare FRANCHESCA for $5,000. The 10-year-old mare is a half-sister to stakes winner Abbey Bridge and is the dam of a winner. She is in foal to Klimt.

JENNIFER LEUTY paid $6,500 for an unnamed 2-year-old Into Mischief filly from the stakes winning mare Sweet seventeen by Hard Spun. The filly sold as a racing prospect.

MARTIN WICKENS bought the Flintshire (GB) filly TRANSONIC, a 2-year-old racing or broodmare prospect, for $20,000. This filly is a daughter of Fair Lady whose dam HONEST LADY, a Grade 1 winner, is the dam of Grade 1 winner First Defense plus three other stakes winner. This is a female family of the late Prince Khaled Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms.

DR. BRIAN AREM, who has already purchased several mares at the sale, bought ZIPPITY ZOOM for $7,500. This is a City Zip mare in foal to Dialed In.

Glen Todd’s North American Thoroughbred Horse Company doled out $35,000 for a British Columbia-bred filly by MacLean’s Music – Alliteration by Congrats. The yearling is a half-sister to last year’s 2-year-old stakes-placed filly Kandy Katie.

CONRAD FARMS, through agent Zach Madden, bought DIVA FROM DIXIE, a Dixieland Band mare for $40,000. This mare is a 12-year-old half-sister to the dam of Grade 3 Canadian stakes winner Paladin Bay and she is in foal to Karakontie (Jpn).

The Conrads, Penny and Manfred, also bought ENJOY YOURSELF (GB) for $10,000 and she is a graded stakes-placed Sir Percy mare in foal to Exaggerator.

Owner/trainer DEBRA ROMBIS bought a Wicked Strong 2-year-old from the mare One Fell Swoop by Vicar for $3,500.
