Time to get back to work.

The first 20 workers of 2026 on the Woodbine Tapeta surface were recorded on March 14, and all of them came from the barns of Kevin and Tino Attard and Steven Chircop (according to Equibase).

The weather has been testing since the backstretch opened at the end of February and last week was typical. There were a couple of very mild days, leading to a lot of thawing, followed by very cold temperatures and plenty of snow. That has played havoc with the training track, but the main track was deemed ready to open late last week. Mild temperatures are back on Monday, but drop to bitter cold by Tuesday.

The majority of the Attard horses who worked on Saturday wintered in Ontario while the trainers each have a few horses in Florida.

Chircop has been racing at Laurel and Charles Town.

Grade 1-placed filly and Woodbine Oaks/King’s Plate hopeful LA CULASSE (Knicks Go) was among the first horses to have a workout this year at Woodbine, breezing 3 furlongs in 39.40 for owners Al and Bill Ulwelling and trainer Kevin Attard.

Chircop sent out multiple stakes winner SOUPER DIVA to work 3 furlongs in 38.20 for owners 6 Deep Stable. Souper Diva won the Victorian Queen and Muskoka Stakes as a two-year-old last year.

The fastest work of Saturday for 3 furlongs was posted by the speedy mare Quiet Maddelena, who was clocked in 37.40.

On Sunday, the Attards and Chircop were back with 12 of the 15 workers on the main track.
