Stolz Thoroughbreds near Edmonton, Alberta, has acquired graded stakes winner CITY WOLF, a half-brother to leading sires Ghostzapper and City Zip, to stand at their recently opened new multi-purpose farm. Cassandra and Dennis Stolz (read more here) stand Dynamic Sky, Readyforprimetime and Medallist and have also added Alberta stallion SINGING SAINT to its roster.
“We moved to Edmonton area now and have a farm,” said Cassandra Stolz. “After Bar None Ranches announced that they were shutting down their breeding barn we had to do something, so we got a place and brought our stallions home and are now standing others, such as Singing Saint, as well. We have a few mares coming in for foaling and our own mares foaling at home this year. Plus quite a few booked in for breeding, too.”
City Wolf, a son of Giant’s Causeway from Broodmare of the Year Baby Zip, by Relaunch, was placed as a 2- and 3-year-old and then rose to the top of the older horse ranks in Ontario in 2011. He won the Grade 3 Durham Cup Stakes defeating James Street, Grade 1 winner Stately Victor and Queen’s Plate winner Eye of the Leopard. That year he also won his maiden at 7 furlongs.
As a 5-year-old, City Wolf was second in both the Durham Cup and Grade 3 Seagram Cup. Racing for Stronach Stables which bred the horse, City Wolf earned over $300,000 from his 18 races.
City Wolf stood at stud for Stronach in Florida and Kentucky and has been in California recently. City Wolf’s half-brother Ghostzapper is the sire of 2022 stars Moira, Eclipse Award winner Goodnight Olive, and Fearless, among others.
City Wolf will stand for a fee of $2,000.
Singing Saint, a son of El Prado (Ire), has sired over 46 winners and six stakes winners, and he will stand for a fee of $2,500.
