Queen’s Plate winning filly Moira is one of 23 nominees for this year’s Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes on Saturday, October 8 at Woodbine Racetrack.
The Grade 1 event for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and up, will be run over the famed E.P. Taylor Turf Course at the distance of a mile and a quarter.
This year’s E.P. Taylor Stakes will notably be contested for an increased purse of $750,000, up from $600,000 in 2021.
Star three-year-old filly Moira could make her first start since capturing The Queen’s Plate in the E.P. Taylor. The Kevin Attard trained daughter of Ghostzapper dominated her rivals with a seven-length romp in Canada’s most prestigious horse race on August 21. The Plate victory followed a double-digit length score in the Woodbine Oaks.
Moira most recently worked over the Woodbine Tapeta on September 21, breezing six-furlongs in 1:14.
With eyes on a Grade 1 victory, Moira’s connections of X-Men Racing, Madaket Stables LLC and SF Racing LLC have the E.P. Taylor as a potential option on the schedule of Canada’s top three-year-old.
The list of nominees for the E.P. Taylor also features eight horses from the barn of trainer Chad Brown, including recent Grade 2 Flower Bowl winner Virginia Joy. Also on the list is the Bill Mott trained multiple graded stakes winner War Like Goddess, who finished second in the Flower Bowl, and Mark Casse student Fev Rover (IRE), who recently captured the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes.
