The Queen isn’t having babies just yet.

MOIRA, recently purchased for $4.3 million following her big win in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) by Yulong Investments, is headed to Australia to Yulong Stud in Mangalore, about 90 minutes north of Melbourne. It was in the aforementioned city where Yulong’s owner Yuesheng Zhang was when he had the successful bid over the internet on Moira at The November Sale, just hours before the Melbourne Cup.

Offered by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, agent for X-Men Racing, Madaket Stables and SF Bloodstock, Moira saved her best moment for seemingly last when she won the Filly & Mare Turf by a diminishing half a length over Cinderella’s Dream.

Yulong Stud’s General Manager Vin Cox told Canadian Thoroughbred that while “we haven’t made any real plans with her just at this stage” that “likely short to medium term we will race her on, potentially in Australia.”

Yulong was front and centre on Thursday at Flemington, just days after the Cup, as their filly TREASURETHE MOMENT won the 2500 metre VRC Oaks (G1). It was the second straight graded stakes win in just over a week for the Matt Laurie-trained filly. Treasurethe Moment is from the first crop of Yulong’s stallion ALABAMA EXPRESS.

Yulong is a major player in the Australian racing and breeding landscape, investing in quality yearlings and broodmares while offering breeders a commercial stallion roster at our Victorian base.

With racing and breeding operations in Europe & America, and a focus on expanding thoroughbred racing in mainland China, there is a world of opportunity with Yulong.

Racing is held in Australia through to July. The Australian breeding season is September to December.

Stay tuned to Canadian Thoroughbred for more Moira updates.
