Setting a stakes record while being eased up at the finish line, INFINITE PATIENCE stamped herself one of the best 2-year-old fillies in Canada with her easy score in the 40th Fantasy Stakes at Hastings racecourse on Sunday.
The pretty bay filly with a thick white blaze pressed the moderate pace of rival Miss Prospector for half of the 1 1/16 mile test on dirt before galloping away to a 4 1/2 length win under Antonio Reyes.
Sent off at 1 to 9 (there was no place or show wagering), Infinite Patience is unbeaten in five races and the winner’s share of the $75,000 Fantasy boosted her earnings to $209,500.
Her time for the race of 1:44.16 was the fastest Fantasy ever.
“I never pushed her,” said Reyes to Daily Racing Form. “She was inside Miss Prospector, but it didn’t bother her. She doesn’t care where she is, so you can put her anywhere. She is a very special filly.”
Infinite Patience is trained by Barbara Heads. She was bred in British Columbia by William DeCoursey who owns her in partnership with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Nugent-Hopkins is a center for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League. The Oilers are undefeated in five games this year.
Infinite Patience is by the A.P. Indy stallion Sungold who raced at Hastings and was a three-time winner. The filly’s dam, Montero, was a stakes winner of over $200,000 for DeCoursey while racing in Alberta. Montero is by Louis Quatorze.
Montero’s previous two foals are winners including Raider, a stakes winner of over $229,000.
