Equine Guelph is inviting racing professionals engaged in the Ontario horse racing industry to participate in a survey of the industry in the province, to better understand and serve the needs of horse people.
In 2016, Equine Guelph conducted a major Horse Racing Industry Survey and received 654 survey responses – which identified industry concerns regarding racehorse health (injuries, disease/sickness), well-being, fire prevention, and industry communication and training. (Click here to view results.)
As a result, Equine Guelph launched a two-year Pilot Project (funded by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) that provided free short online courses to AGCO license holders (trainers, grooms, owners) and developed and delivered the following two-week online courses that were offered exclusively to the Ontario horse racing industry in 2019-20:
1. Racehorse Respiratory Health
2. Lameness/Injury Prevention in Racehorses
3. Gut Health & Colic Prevention
Based on the uptake of the Pilot Project, with over 800 registered students from the racing industry over two years, Equine Guelph reports that the learning from these courses was highly valued. The new survey covers topics such as:
- What are your current top racehorse health priorities?
- Which new course topics would you and your racehorses benefit from?
- Is online training a good way to deliver important training to you?
This Survey consists of 20 questions and will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. It will be open for responses until January 20, 2021.
