Now that the post positions have been drawn (read this earlier post for all of that info) and the fields are set, it is a bit easier to start organizing videos and thoughts and projections for horses in the 14 Cup races. Of course, there are plenty of horses some of us have never heard of until entries were drawn, but since Friday it’s possible to get videos of workouts and gallops of most starters.

Monday and Tuesday observations:

*MAXFIELD, one of the top colts in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile was withdrawn Tuesday morning*

*LANDESKOG is out of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint*

SHEKKY SHEBAZBreeders’ Cup Turf Sprint – This is a big, blocky gelding by Cape Blanco from a Red Ransom mare and this gelding was winning for $25,000 claiming three starts ago and then purchased privately by Madaket Stable, Bethelem Stables and Michael Dubb. The gelding was given to Jason Servis and this fast fellow has record two triple-digit Beyer Figures in succession. He made a super appearance on Tuesday morning.

BLUE CHIPPER – first horse to race in Cup from Korea. This is a Tiznow 4yo gelding from a Dixie Union mare, Dixie City, who won the Grade 2 Demoiselle at 2 and he is one beautiful mover on the dirt. He races in the Dirt Mile against Omaha Beach and others and he is 7 for 8 in his career. Who knows where he fits in as far as North American racing. Flavian Prat rides.

MITOLE – SHANCEALOT – IMPERIAL HINT – What a great trio of sprinters going in the Sprint on Saturday. Mitole had a breeze on Tuesday morning under a strong hold, more like a fast gallop. He had a fast gate workout back on the 22nd, 58 4/5, which was solid.

SHANCEALOT worked in 46 2/5 on Saturday and didn’t look he was going that fast.

IMPERIAL HINT looked like a compact power keg ready to blow Tuesday morning. This lovely 6-year-old horse, whose sire, Imperialism, stands at Pierre Esquirol’s in Alberta, was 2nd in the Sprint in 2017 and 3rd last year.

GOT STORMY – Breeders’ Cup Mile, looked amazing on Monday in a gallop, very strong energy from this filly.

OLD PERSIAN is bright and shiny and looking very good for the Breeders’ Cup Turf. This guy zipped over from Europe to Woodbine and romped in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf. He could have stayed and won the Canadian International too, but he is this good.

YOSHIDA – Breeders’ Cup Classic – Just a gorgeous mover on Sunday at Santa Anita and he looked super again Monday morning.

Future Stars Friday

OUR COUNTRY (Constitution) looked super in a Belmont turf workout on the weekend. Juvenile Turf

HIT THE ROAD – post 14 in the Juvenile Turf, really impressed on Oct. 26 in his Santa Anita dirt workout
