Brooke Hubbard, co-owners of Queen’s Plate winner ONE BAD BOY, told Canadian Thoroughbred this week that the star colt is resting on a farm in California and will return to racing next season. The son of Twirling Candy, who has not raced since he was third in the Prince of Wales Sakes to Tone Broke, raced just twice in Canada and is not eligible for a Sovereign Award.

CLEOPATRA’S STRIKE, bred by Sam-Son farms and now raced by Slam Dunk Racing and Michael Nentwig, won the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Championship at 1 1/4 miles on turf at Santa Anita.

The son of Smart Strike, trained by Phil D’Amato, is from the mare Cleopatra’s Needle by Sky Classic.

The 6-year-old was sold by Sam-Son following his win in a $60,000 claiming race on the Woodbine turf last fall. He was second by a nose in the Grade 2 San Gabriel in January, second off the layoff in September in an optional claiming race and then a 9 to 1 winner of the John Henry, posting a 97 Beyer Speed Figure.

Slam Dunk’s Nick Cosato said,

“He was presented to us by Jeff Macore out of Texas and a lot of the horses he sends our way are pretty interesting to say the least. Phil’s done a great job with this guy; he really loved him and they didn’t downplay how much confidence he had in him today.

“We have great partners. They let us do our job and we have guys behind us like Michael Nentwig who joined forces with us on quite a few horses about a year ago at Del Mar. When you have people who give you free reign the same way we give the trainers free reign, it’s a recipe for success.

KA GEE GEE, owned by Zilli Racing and trained by Mike DePaulo, finished second in the Miss Woodford Stakes at Monmouth last weekend with an 80 Beyer Speed Figure. The filly is by Majesticperfection – Romantic Song by Songandaprayer and she was bred by Ivan Dalos’ Tall Oaks Farm.
