Vancouver’s PETER REDEKOP recently celebrated the trio of honours earned by his 5-year-old Florida-bred ANYPORTINASTORM at Emerald Downs and will hope that his latest purchase Final Jeopardy can upend the 73rd BC Premier’s (Grade 3) on Sunday at Hastings Park

Anyportinastorm was named 2019 Horse of the Meeting, top sprinter and top older horse at the Emerald Downs meeting. Trained by Blaine Wright, Anyportinastorm ran season-fastest times at both six and six-and-a-half furlongs, winning the Governor’s Stakes in 1:07.54 and Budweiser Stakes in 1:14.35.  The gelding is by City Zip out of La Defense by Wild Again.

Redekop, who recently added $10,000 of his own money to the BC Derby purse and then watched his big-money purchase Final Jeopardy close too late to be third, will start that sophomore in Sunday’s B C Premier’s at 1 3/8 miles.

According to Greg Douglas in the Derby Bar and Grill Newsletter, “It was widely reported that at a cost of ‘just south of $450,000’, Final Jeopardy was acquired by Redekop for the express purpose of running (and winning) the Canadian Derby in Edmonton on August 18 and the BC Derby at Hastings on September 7. Third-place finishes in each of those $250,000 stakes fell short of expectations.”

Final Jeopardy, second to the leading 3-year-old in the U.S., Code of Honor in the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes this summer, is one of just five horses entered in the Premier’s on Sunday.

HE’S THE REASON, a grey son of The Factor who handily won the S W Randall Plate in his last start is listed as the 8 to 5 morning line favourite for Sunday’s race.

Saturday’s feature at Hastings is the Grade 3 Ballerina with the amazing Here’s Hannah attempting to get back in the win column after Bear edged her and ended a seven-race winning streak last time out.

Including this weekend, there are only 10 dates remaining on the 2019 thoroughbred calendar at Hastings Racecourse.
